The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 44

Diana finally felt completely at ease.

"Jo, thank you for this."

Jocelyn sighed internally. "You're welcome."

Diana was about to say more.

Jocelyn didn't want to hear it and deliberately cut her off. "Where's Dad?"

"Your father went to the office. I told him to rest more at home, but he's worried about the company."

Jocelyn paused for a few seconds. "At a time like this, we should probably have Jeremy come back."

Diana immediately became wary. "Why would Jeremy come back? This money has nothing to do with your brother. You're not expecting him to help repay it, are you?"

Jocelyn was speechless for a moment.

"Dad's health isn't what it used to be. As the sole heir to the Evans family, it's time for Jeremy to come back and help share the burden."

Afraid Diana wouldn't get the message, Jocelyn deliberately emphasized the words "sole heir."

Upon hearing this, Diana naturally felt that Jocelyn was being sensible, and she smiled.

"Jeremy did mention wanting to come back. I'll talk to him about it later and see what he wants to do. But he's used to a life of freedom. Suddenly tying him down to the company... he might not be used to it. So there's no rush. We'll take it slow."

Jocelyn's heart ached with a faint sourness.

In this house, what she felt most acutely was Diana's two-faced treatment of her biological son versus her adopted daughter.

"Jo, you're our daughter too. You need to be more involved in family matters from now on."

More involved?

She probably meant squeezing more money out of her.

Jocelyn hid her heartache. "Mom, it must be so hard for you."

Diana didn't understand. "What do you mean?"

"It must be hard for you to still think of me as your daughter."

Diana was speechless.

A string of urgent calls from Adrian came through. Jocelyn knew that the second part of her double victory had arrived.

"What is it?"

"These shameless reporters! Do these people have no decency? Are they so desperate for a paycheck that they'd sell their own souls?"

This was Michelle in a nutshell.

In public, she was a vision of polished elegance.

But behind closed doors, where no one could see, she was nothing more than a crude shrew with no manners.

Jocelyn was used to it.

She had already seen the news before she came back.

It was the top gossip story of the day, sitting firmly at number one.

The content was certainly eye-catching.

Jocelyn couldn't help but marvel internally.

The reporter Sarah had found was a true professional in the gossip game.
