The man crossed the room with long strides and took a seat next to Julian.
He cast a brief glance at Liam's dark, furious expression.
"Looks like I picked a bad time to walk in."
Julian handed him a glass of wine. "He just got into a screaming match with Sarah. He's in a bad mood."
The man didn't seem to know how to smile.
"Even Liam Bancroft gets into fights with women?"
Still running hot, Liam immediately fired back.
"Are you telling me you've never fought with a woman?"
The man wasn't the least bit provoked.
"I'd like to, but I've never had the opportunity..."
Those words carried entirely too much hidden weight.
It wasn't something they could casually ask about.
The man turned his head and looked past Julian, his gaze landing on Jocelyn.
"Miss Evans. A pleasure."
Jocelyn was surprised.
"You know me?"
"I didn't initially, but Julian couldn't stop bringing you up every time we talked."
Was it just her, or did that sound slightly loaded?
Julian stepped in to introduce them. "This is Sean Quinn. We call him Sean."
Jocelyn extended her hand. "Nice to meet you."
Sean merely gave her hand a cool, detached glance. "Apologies. I don't shake hands with women."
Oh.
Jocelyn retracted her hand, feeling slightly awkward.
Was he a germaphobe?
Or was he literally saving himself for someone?
Julian frowned slightly in warning.
"Sean. Take it down a notch."
Sean let out a soft scoff.
"No wonder Liam said you were forgetting your friends for a partner. He was right."
Instead of getting angry, Julian laughed.
"And? Do you want me to beat you into the ground like I did to Liam?"
Hearing this, Liam immediately perked up, his anger dissipating slightly.
"Hey! Now that you mention it, Julian and I have fought, and Sean and I have sparred, but you two have never actually gone head-to-head. Why don't you settle this right now?"
Sean took a sip of his drink. "There's no need. At best, we'd tie."
"Tch." Liam rolled his eyes. "Julian has been training in martial arts since he was a kid. How can you even say that with a straight face?"
"The last time Julian put you on the floor, it took him five minutes and thirty-one seconds," Sean stated calmly. "The time before that, when I put you on the floor, it took me five minutes and thirty-two seconds. If we're being mathematically precise, Julian is exactly one second better than me."
