The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 47

Jocelyn left after saying her piece, missing the way Audrey's face paled at her words.

The baby in her arms started to cry, startled by Audrey's tightening grip.

Annoyed, Audrey called for the nanny.

"Take the baby away! I don't want to see him right now. He's so irritating!"

The nanny, whose policy was to do her job and not ask questions, took the wailing infant and left.

But Audrey's mood didn't improve.

She was furious.

The apartment at The Astoria, though not large, was in a location so exclusive you couldn't buy it for any price.

On a clear day, you could sit by the floor-to-ceiling windows and watch the most beautiful sunsets over the river.

Audrey had originally planned to use the baby's birth as an excuse to ask for the apartment.

She knew in her heart that Adrian wouldn't actually take her money for it.

And sure enough, Adrian had agreed readily.

She thought it was a done deal, but now Jocelyn had snatched it back.

And what was worse, not only was the apartment gone, but Jocelyn was now being hailed as the family's savior.

Most importantly, when Adrian had left just now, he hadn't even looked at the baby.

The more Audrey thought about it, the angrier she got.

She couldn't stand it.

Jocelyn was about to call Sarah when she saw Adrian push the door open and come in. She quickly put her phone away.

Adrian sat on the sofa and lit a cigarette.

His face, a mask of anger and worry, was shrouded in smoke.

Jocelyn said nothing, walking over to open the window.

A chill late autumn wind blew in. Dressed in thin clothes, Jocelyn couldn't help but shiver.

Jocelyn smiled faintly. "No reason. It just popped into my head."

Adrian pursed his lips and fell silent again.

A sarcastic smile touched Jocelyn's lips.

He loved Audrey, but he didn't dare admit it. How much of that love was real, and how much was fake?

Jocelyn changed the subject. "After we finish the paperwork for the apartment, I want to go away for a bit."

"Why the sudden urge to travel?"

"I haven't been anywhere in years. I just feel like going."

Adrian didn't say much. "Alright."

He could use the few days she was away to see if he would feel her absence.

Jocelyn breathed a quiet sigh of relief.

She had to have the abortion in a couple of days, and she would definitely need a few days to recover afterward. Otherwise, it would be easy for someone to find out.
