"It might," the doctor replied coolly.

"Isn't there any way to prevent it from scarring?"

Jocelyn didn't say a word. She simply stood up and walked out.

The doctor ignored Adrian entirely. "Next patient."

Surprisingly, Adrian didn't lose his temper. He followed Jocelyn out into the hallway. "Are you hungry?"

Jocelyn's mind was a foggy mess. "I'm exhausted. I just want to sleep."

She didn't have the energy for small talk. She just wanted to be alone.

"I'll take you home, then," Adrian offered.

Jocelyn was about to refuse, but considering it was the middle of the night, she knew she'd never get a cab. She reluctantly agreed.

But she didn't give him the address to The Serenity Estate. Instead, she directed him to The Astoria.

She had no intention of letting him know where she actually lived now. Julian had already found a new place for Gideon, so the apartment was empty anyway.

Adrian stayed quiet until they finally pulled up to The Astoria.

"Are you pregnant?" he asked.

Jocelyn replied nonchalantly, "Of course not."

He had managed to hold it in the entire ride. She had to admit, Adrian was making progress.

Adrian stared pointedly at her stomach. "The kidnapper said you were pregnant."

Jocelyn gave a tight, unamused smile. "Since when do you take a kidnapper's word as gospel?"

"Where there's smoke, there's fire."

"I lied to him."

"You lied?"

"Yeah." Jocelyn unbuckled her seatbelt but didn't rush to get out. She knew Adrian wouldn't let her leave until they settled this.
