The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 485

Jocelyn stared at his earnest face, feeling entirely disoriented. This wasn't the Adrian she knew.

The Adrian she knew was arrogant, aloof, and utterly self-righteous. Even when he was dead wrong, he never apologized. The words "I'm sorry" simply didn't exist in his vocabulary.

"You really are acting differently, Adrian."

"How so?"

Jocelyn let out a dry laugh. "Actually apologizing. That's a first."

Adrian held her gaze. "I've wronged you in so many ways in the past. I've wanted to apologize for a long time, but I could never find the right moment. You've been avoiding me."

"Jo, can you stop hiding from me from now on?"

Jocelyn remained silent.

He took another step closer. "Just as friends."

Jocelyn pressed her lips together, unsure of how to respond. She fully expected him to snap when she didn't give him an answer, but he didn't.

He simply said in a calm voice, "Go inside. It's freezing out here. And don't forget to go back to the hospital in two days to get your dressing changed."

With that, he turned and walked away.

Jocelyn turned and went inside.

She flipped the switch, flooding the apartment with bright light. But it still felt suffocatingly empty.

As she walked into the living room, she noticed a lush, green potted plant sitting on the coffee table.

Gideon must have left it. She never pegged someone so rebellious and guarded as the type to keep houseplants.

She headed to the bathroom and took a quick shower, carefully keeping the water away from her bandaged neck.

Steam coated the mirror in a thick, white fog, blurring her reflection. She stepped out, wrapped in a towel, and wiped the condensation away with her hand.

Her sharp features stared back at her, but she barely recognized the woman in the glass.

She shouldn't have left with Adrian.

She knew it would break Julian's heart.

But the truth was, she hadn't wanted to leave with Julian either. She didn't know how to face him right now.

Memories flooded her mind, piecing together all the subtle things he had said to her.

He had said: I have my own selfish motives too.
