The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 55

Adrian could feel his desire roaring back to life.

He wanted to devour this woman to extinguish the fire in his body.

But as he turned, bending down to kiss her, the scene froze. An image of Jocelyn flashed through his mind.

Her long hair cascading loosely down her back, her skin as smooth as porcelain, her slender, graceful frame...

Adrian abruptly released his hold on Audrey's waist, his lust instantly gone.

Audrey, not understanding, continued to press forward. "Adrian..."

Adrian blocked her.

"I'm sorry, I got carried away just now."

Audrey's shoulders were bare, her eyes alluring.

"Adrian, I understand. I know you and Jocelyn haven't had a physical relationship in a long time."

"But you're a normal man."

"Adrian, I don't mind..."

Adrian sighed. "Audrey, we can't do this."

Her eyes reddened. "I'm not asking you to do anything for me. I just mean... I can help you with your physical needs."

Not wanting to hurt her pride too much, Adrian found a reasonable excuse.

"You're still recovering. You absolutely cannot have intercourse."

Audrey bit her lip. "I can use my..."

"Audrey," Adrian cut her off, not wanting to hear any more. "I'm a bit tired. I'm going back to my room to rest."

Without giving Audrey another chance to speak, he fled as if escaping.

Audrey, feeling both wronged and resentful, smashed several things before she felt slightly better.

The next day.

Jocelyn ran into Adrian, who had just woken up.

He looked haggard, as if he hadn't slept well.

Jocelyn didn't bother to ask.

They sat at the dining table, waiting for Maria to bring breakfast.

After breakfast, they all set off for the City Records Office.

The place was crowded, so they had to take a number and wait.

Claire, finding it too boring to just sit and wait, ran off to wander around.

Adrian suddenly brought something up.

"There's a charity auction next week. Come with me."

Jocelyn gave a noncommittal "mm-hmm."

Just as their number was finally called, Claire ran back.

"Adrian, I think Leo is sick."

Adrian's anxiety was visible. "He was fine when we left. How could he be sick?"

"I don't know. I was bored so I called Audrey, and she told me."

She then shot a pointed look at Jocelyn.

"Audrey knows you're busy with important things and even told me not to tell you. But Leo is our family's top priority, so you have to know."
