The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 65

That afternoon, a message came from Sarah.

Mission accomplished.

Jocelyn looked at the picture and smiled.

She couldn't wait to see the look on Adrian's face when he came home tonight and saw that medical report.

Eleanor and Michelle didn't return until evening, so Maria boldly brought Jocelyn another meal.

Jocelyn hadn't gone hungry at all.

Her supposed confinement was just an excuse to get some peace and quiet.

Jocelyn spent the day compiling the files of several top computer engineers who had joined Adrian's company through her connections.

Once she was done, she sent them to Julian.

He replied with just two words. [Got it.]

Just as Jocelyn finished clearing her chat history, her bedroom door was pushed open without a knock.

Adrian walked in, smelling faintly of alcohol.

The scent grew stronger as he approached, and Jocelyn couldn't help but wrinkle her nose.

Adrian sat down on the edge of the bed and loosened his tie.

"Jo."

Jocelyn didn't speak, just watched him.

She had a feeling he'd been acting strangely the past few days. She almost preferred it when he treated her like she was invisible.

Adrian's hand reached out to brush her cheek, his gaze lingering with a look she couldn't quite place.

"From now on... try to stay on Grandma's good side, okay?"

It seemed Eleanor had said something to him.

"Grandma came to my office this afternoon. She brought up our situation."

Jocelyn asked, "And?"

Adrian replied, "Grandma feels there's no need for our marriage to continue."

Jocelyn remained unfazed. "And what was your answer?"

Jocelyn replied, "That's because you've never really looked at me."

Adrian took her hand.

Her slender, beautiful fingers were captivating.

"In that case, I plan to start looking at you more closely from now on."

A chill of unease washed over Jocelyn. "What do you mean?"

A flicker of resentment crossed Adrian's face.

"Grandma may be the head of the family, but she can't control my personal life. If I'm not willing, she won't dare to truly force me. After all..."

"Her favorite grandson is already dead."

Jocelyn suddenly felt a chill run down her spine. Today, Adrian seemed almost sinister.

"Jo," Adrian said, playing with her fingers, "Grandma has always favored Arthur. So much so that... if Arthur and I both wanted the same thing, she would always make me give it to him."

Jocelyn barely stopped herself from saying, "Including Audrey?"

"So the thing I hate most... is giving in!" Adrian snapped.
