"And I'm getting tired of her telling me what to do!"
"Adrian," Jocelyn said softly, seeing his agitation, "you've had too much to drink. You should get some rest."
Adrian paid her no mind. "I'm not divorcing you. From now on, I want to build a good life with you. So, even if Grandma says something harsh, just endure it. There's no need to clash with her."
So that was it. After everything, he was just asking her to grin and bear it. Not once did he mention protecting her, or even being on her side.
It was only at this moment that Jocelyn realized Adrian harbored a great deal of resentment toward Eleanor. And that resentment, long suppressed, was growing stronger.
Jocelyn subtly pulled her hand away, wiping it vigorously under the covers.
"Get some rest. Don't overthink things."
But Adrian just stared at her. "Jo, if one day I do something wrong, will you forgive me?"
One day?
You've already done something wrong.
Many things, in fact.
From the very beginning, Adrian had been deceiving her. The vows at their wedding were all bullshit. He had married her on a whim, as a compromise. Though he was with her physically, his heart was always with Audrey.
No wonder that for three years, her husband had treated Audrey with a kindness that bordered on favoritism. Blindly loving someone really does lower your IQ.
Jocelyn felt like a complete fool. She had actually thought Adrian was kind to Audrey because of their families' close ties, that he treated her like a little sister.
Right now, Jocelyn felt utterly exhausted. She knew everything, yet she had to pretend she knew nothing. She had to play the part of a dutiful wife, acting along with Adrian, speaking words she didn't mean, all without revealing a single crack in her facade.
Once she got her revenge, maybe she should consider a career in acting.
Jocelyn said, "Everyone makes mistakes. No matter what you do wrong, I will forgive you."
Adrian seemed skeptical. "You're not lying to me?"
Jocelyn asked innocently, "Then what did Audrey say?"
Adrian said, "She said he probably had an allergic reaction to something he touched yesterday, but it wasn't serious."
Jocelyn asked, "Is that really what she said?"
Adrian sensed something was off. "What's wrong? Why are you suddenly asking about this?"
"But..." Jocelyn hesitated, feigning reluctance.
Seeing her, Adrian pressed, "What is it? Just say what's on your mind."
Jocelyn opened her phone and held up the medical report in front of Adrian.
The report clearly stated: Allergic reaction to body lotion. Symptom duration: Approximately two days.
