Adrian looked at her tear-filled eyes. Though still annoyed, his heart finally softened.
"Alright, stop crying." His hand wiped away her tears.
"I've been too busy these past two days, so I haven't had much time for you and the baby. I'll be more mindful in the future and try to make more time for you both."
"And don't overthink things. I'm not good to you because you had Leo. It's because you're Audrey. You're..."
He wanted to say, "You're the woman I once wanted to marry."
But for some reason, Adrian couldn't bring himself to say the words.
Not hearing what she truly wanted to hear, Audrey felt a pang of disappointment.
"Do you really mean that?"
Adrian said gently, "Silly girl, when have I ever lied to you?"
Audrey threw herself into his arms.
"Adrian, hearing you say that sets my mind at ease."
Adrian gently patted her back. "You can't cry anymore. It's bad for your eyes."
Audrey snuggled into his embrace. "I don't want to cry. I can handle any hardship, but for some reason, I just can't bear it when you're the one hurting me."
"Adrian, have I been spoiled by you?"
The next day, when Jocelyn came out of her room, she saw Audrey sitting on the living room sofa. For someone supposedly recovering from childbirth, the woman was surprisingly active.
Jocelyn had no intention of engaging with her.
"Jocelyn." Audrey called out to her.
Jocelyn turned. "Yes?"
Audrey stood up, her face a mask of apology.
"I'm sorry. I was the one who hid the truth about Leo's condition from Adrian. Grandma and Mom didn't know, so please don't blame them."
Jocelyn felt a wave of nausea. She felt a desperate urge to expose Audrey for the fraud she was.
But she couldn't. A moment of impatience could ruin her entire plan.
Jocelyn chose silence and simply walked away.
"I don't care what happened between you and my husband. Because as long as I'm here, you will only ever be the mistress."
"After all, I am the wife Adrian legally married. And you, as everyone knows, are his sister-in-law."
Audrey's face gradually turned ugly.
That's right! She had been the one to send Jocelyn the photo. Audrey had deliberately had someone take a picture of her and Adrian checking into a hotel, just to provoke Jocelyn. To make Jocelyn understand that Adrian didn't love her.
But to Audrey's surprise, the photo had landed like a stone in the ocean, causing no ripples at all.
Could it be that this woman really didn't care?
Jocelyn's smile was full of meaning.
"Actually, I'd be quite interested to see if my husband would defy public opinion and marry you at any cost."
Audrey trembled with rage at Jocelyn's mocking smile.
But Jocelyn's own smile only brightened.
"How about I give you a little advice?"
