Then, an idea struck Jocelyn.
"Even if he makes a mistake in the future, I will forgive him and stand by him." she added.
That last sentence was like a piece of candy dropped into Adrian's mouth. In all their years of marriage, he had never heard Jocelyn say something so moving. And so, Adrian couldn't help but soften.
"Grandma, Audrey's parents will be here soon. Let's not make things unpleasant and become a laughingstock again."
As he said this, he gave Audrey a meaningful look.
Audrey understood his signal. Though she was reluctant, she helped smooth things over.
"Grandma," Audrey went to Eleanor's side, hugging her arm coquettishly. "Alright, it's not that big of a deal. We're all family. It's normal to have little disagreements. Grandma, Jocelyn already knows she was wrong. Please don't scold her anymore, okay?"
Jocelyn felt a wave of nausea listening to those words, but she forced herself not to say anything more. If she kept arguing, it would only interfere with her plans.
Eleanor's expression finally softened, though her words were still harsh.
"Hmph, it'll be a cold day in hell before she ever admits she's wrong. For Audrey's sake, I won't argue with you today."
"Audrey's parents will be here soon. If you can't put on a pleasant face, you'd best not be seen in this house for a while."
This was exactly what Jocelyn wanted.
"Then why don't I go stay with my parents for a couple of days? That way I won't ruin the atmosphere."
Eleanor said, "Do as you please."
Jocelyn had lost her appetite. She dragged her stiff body back to her room, step by step. Behind her was a pack of wolves and hyenas, eager to tear her apart. They were asserting their dominance, trying to force her to compromise, to voluntarily give up this marriage.
A profound sense of helplessness made Jocelyn want to break down and sob.
Sarah's voice was tense. "Jo? Say something!"
Jocelyn composed herself, finally managing to calm down.
Two minutes later, Sarah's deafening curses erupted from the phone.
"That bastard Adrian is a useless piece of trash! A total scumbag! He's messing around with his sister-in-law while telling you he wants to build a life with you. He's afraid of his grandma and pities his mistress, so he just bullies you in the middle! He's a 24-karat asshole!"
"And that Audrey, acting like such a brazen whore! You should really let Adrian see her true colors, let him see what kind of garbage he's actually in love with!"
Jocelyn was under no illusions. "Adrian is always going to side with Audrey. Even with the evidence right under his nose, it wouldn't matter."
