The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 76

Diana froze. Her adopted daughter wasn't as stupid as she thought.

Jocelyn closed her eyes, a sharp pain twisting in her heart. How she wished her mother would just hug her right now, offer her some comfort. But it was all an impossible dream.

"I'm in a hurry. I'm leaving now."

With that, she left without a backward glance.

"Mom, what are you looking at?"

Jeremy suddenly appeared behind her, making Diana jump.

"You brat, you scared me to death."

Jeremy put his arm around her shoulder. "Mom, don't you think my sister is getting more and more beautiful, more and more attractive?"

Diana didn't think much of it. "That's true. It seems her years with the Lowell family have been good to her."

Jeremy's smile was full of meaning. "I don't think it has anything to do with the Lowells. It's my sister's original genes. Her birth parents must not have been ordinary people."

At these words, Diana's face darkened.

"Jeremy, why are you bringing this up for no reason? Are you bored?"

Jeremy replied, "I was just saying. Why are you so angry?"

Diana said, "Don't ever say that again."

"Fine, if you don't want me to say it, I won't. But Mom," Jeremy's smile was wheedling, "I've had a few girlfriends abroad over the years, but they were all pretty forgettable. They don't even hold a candle to my sister. Why don't you just have her divorce that Lowell guy and marry me instead?"

Diana's heart pounded. "Jeremy! She's your sister!"

"Jeremy, the fact that you even call her 'sister' is a compliment to her. Just think about it. What is her status, and what is yours? Is she even worthy of you?"

For a moment, a complex expression flashed across twenty-four-year-old Jeremy's face, a look far beyond his years.

"Mom, you're giving me way too much credit, and you're seriously selling her short."

Diana paid his words no mind, focusing on more important matters.

"I called you back to the country not for you to fool around, but to help your father. You need to take this opportunity to learn how to manage such a large corporation, so that one day I can confidently hand over the business to you."

Jeremy seemed uninterested. "Let's talk about it later. I need to get used to being back home first."

Diana poked him in the head. "You, you're nothing but trouble!"

He was impossible to discipline and far too charming to scold—a son meant only to be spoiled.
