The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 97

Maria was likely quite embarrassed.

"I... I broke my arm, so I haven't been able to wash my hair these past few days. I'm sorry you have to see me like this."

Julian smiled gently.

"It's alright."

Maria looked at the handsome, refined man before her. "And you are?"

Jocelyn answered for him. "He's a friend of mine."

Maria nodded without further questions, then began to wipe her tears.

"You must be laughing at me. It's my fault for not raising my son well."

The man suddenly burst into the room.

"What are you crying in front of an outsider for! Don't you know not to air our dirty laundry in public!"

Jocelyn had already made up her mind.

But before that, she needed to know what Maria wanted.

So, Jocelyn asked, "Maria, are you willing to come with me?"

Maria didn't understand. "Where to? Back to the Lowell's?"

"Not back to the Lowell's. To my home. To live with me from now on."

Maria understood her meaning and glanced at her disappointing son.

"However, there's one condition," Jocelyn emphasized. "You can't give him any more money."

Otherwise, this hole would never be filled.

Maria thought for a moment and finally, steeling her resolve, nodded.

"Mrs. Lowell, if you don't mind, I am willing to serve you for the rest of my life!"

The man spat on the floor.

"This is my mother. You think you can take her without my permission? Not a chance!"

Jocelyn couldn't be bothered to reason with him.

"Can you stop me?"

The man thought it over.

"If you want to take her, fine. Give me money!"

Jocelyn had expected this.

"How much?"

The man calculated in his head. "Five hundred thousand!"

Jocelyn scoffed.

"Three hundred thousand."

On the way here, Julian had already discovered that the man owed two hundred thousand in gambling debts.

"Two hundred thousand for you to pay off your debts. The remaining hundred thousand is a final gift from Maria. From now on, whether you live or die has nothing to do with her."

The man was not about to agree. "No way! It has to be five hundred thousand!"

Jocelyn's voice stayed calm, but there was enough steel in it to shut down any argument. "Three hundred thousand is my final offer. You'd better think it through."

Exactly three hundred thousand.

From: Julian Vance.

Jocelyn looked at Julian.

He didn't speak, just nodded at her.

Jocelyn felt her cheeks grow warm.

It was quite embarrassing.

It was as if Julian had become her personal ATM.

Before getting into the car, Maria broke down in front of Jocelyn, crying so hard she could barely stand.

She never thought that in her lifetime, someone would care for her like this.

Jocelyn didn't have time to stop her and was at a loss for what to do.

Julian, who was about to get into the passenger seat, ran over to help Maria up.

Maria still tried to bend down in gratitude.

Julian said, "She's pregnant. She can't exert herself. Don't make it difficult for her."

Maria heard this and froze.

This man knew about her pregnancy.

It seemed their relationship was quite deep.

Jocelyn said, "Maria, you'll be staying at The Astoria from now on. Once I've settled things with the Lowells, I'll be living there too."
