Jocelyn answered without any hesitation, right in front of Julian.
Adrian's voice sounded strained.
As it should.
Losing several key players in a row would make anyone unhappy.
"The charity auction is the day after tomorrow. You haven't forgotten, have you?" Adrian asked.
"I'll be back tomorrow," Jocelyn replied.
"Good. Just as long as you haven't forgotten."
"If there's nothing else, I'm going to hang up."
"Are you that eager to get off the phone with me?"
Jocelyn suppressed her revulsion. "No, I'm just a little tired and want to rest."
On the other end of the line, Adrian took a deep drag from his cigarette.
"Something happened at the company."
Jocelyn asked intentionally, "What happened?"
"Do you remember that guy, Julian Vance, from the other day?"
Jocelyn's eyes flickered to the man sitting quietly on her sofa, looking impossibly elegant even while just drinking milk. She held back a laugh.
This was only the beginning. It wasn't time to laugh out loud just yet.
"I think I remember him. What about it?"
Adrian spoke through gritted teeth.
"I told you, you can't raise a lamb in a wolf's den. That man looks polished and harmless, but he's ruthless. In just a few days, he managed to poach several of my key technical staff right from under my nose."
"I never expected him to have such a powerful network so soon after arriving from Austin."
Jocelyn feigned ignorance.
"How could that happen? You must be under a lot of pressure now."
Adrian let out a cold laugh.
"Does he think he can affect me just by stealing a few people? With enough money, I can find replacements. The tech department will be back up and running in a few days."
"Once it's done, I'll buy you anything you want."
Jocelyn fought back a smile. "Okay."
After hanging up, Jocelyn couldn't hold it in any longer and burst out laughing.
Adrian probably had no idea that Liam Bancroft and Julian Vance were as close as brothers.
"What is it?" Julian asked.
Jocelyn told him everything.
"My dear husband wants Liam to introduce him to political contacts."
Julian understood immediately and chuckled. "He must still be bitter about the South Hills land deal."
"I'm certainly not willing to help him with this," Jocelyn said. "But if I do, it could actually benefit me. So, I need to think carefully about how to help, just enough to satisfy Adrian without actually giving him an advantage."
"That's simple," Julian said. "Leave it to Liam. He has his ways."
Jocelyn smiled. "You're right."
The next day, after chatting with Maria for a while, Jocelyn prepared to head back to Oakhaven Estates.
