Chapter 88-3
“What?” My stomach drops into a black, bottomless pit. “What are you talking about?”

“Last night, the cards told me that you’re dying,” Willow states plainly, her voice completely devoid of pity, horror, or shame; instead, it’s a cold, brutal statement of fact. “The cancer is eating you from the inside out. You can go for treatment, you can pretend Locke’s going to save you somehow, but we all know how this story ends. You’re going to fade away.”
“Shut your fucking mouth,” Locke snarls, stepping toward the threshold, his hand raising the gun again.” Shut it or I’ll shut it for you.”
Willow doesn’t even look at the weapon. She keeps her eyes locked on mine, her smile widening just a fraction.
“And when you’re gone…” Willow says. “Dad will still need a daughter, Mayhem will still need a sister. The club will still need a princess to protect and save. And Locke… Locke will be so broken, so desperate for a piece of you, that he’ll look at the girl who shares your blood and realize she’s the only thing left.”
The absolute, unhinged horror of her words hits me like a physical blow. A wave of nausea washes over me so violently, I have to grab the doorframe to keep my legs from giving out.
“You are insane,” I breathe, the tears finally bursting past my lashes. “Totally crazy.”
“I’m patient,” Willow corrects gently. “You think you’ve won because you have everything right now. But time is on my side, Zara. Every day you get weaker, I get stronger. Every step you take toward the grave is a step I take toward taking back what’s mine.”
She reaches out, pressing the call button for the elevator behind her. The bell chimes softly in the quiet corridor, she types in the code, and the heavy brass doors slide open with a metallic hum.
Willow steps inside the elevator, turning to face us as the doors begin to slide shut.
“Keep my seat warm, dear sister,” she says softly. “I’ll be taking it soon enough.”
The doors close, sealing her away into the dark shaft, leaving Locke and me standing alone in the hallway of the penthouse. From inside the elevator, I hear laughing, fading away as she moves down through the building.
The silence that follows is suffocating, heavy with the terrifying weight of what’s just happened. The illusion of safety is completely gone, shattered into a million sharp, unfixable pieces.
I drop the stolen key onto the kitchen island, my hands trembling so violently that I can’t control them. I can’t breathe. The air in the penthouse feels thick, poisoned by the lingering ghost of her promise.
Locke sets the gun on the table, stepping toward me and gathering my trembling body into his massive, warm arms. He pulls me flush against his naked chest, burying his face in my damp hair, his heart thundering against my cheek like a war drum.
“She’s wrong,” Locke growls into my hair, his voice breaking with a raw, desperate fury I’ve never heard from him before. “She’s wrong, baby. I will burn her to the ground before I ever let her touch a single piece of your life. Do you hear me?”

press my face into his neck, sobbing silently as his arms tighten around me, holding me so hard it almost harts. But no matter how tightly he holds me, no matter how solid his chest feels beneath my hands, I can’t wash away the chilling, horrific truth of Willow’s words echoing in the dark:
Time is on my side.
