Chapter 93-1
Clam
The air in the war room tums even more volatile, heavy with the sharp, metallic tang of rising tempers and unadulterated terror.
“The decision is not made!” Jade’s voice cuts through the room like a razor blade. She pushes off the table, her stilettos striking the hardwood floor with violent precision as she strides directly into Mayhem’s personal space.
Her posture is rigid, her tight clothing framing a stance that usually radiates effortless, lethal confidence. But as she stops inches from my brother’s massive chest, I see it: the tiny, uncontrollable tremor in her lower lip, the slight flare of her nostrils as she struggles to suck in air.
“You are not doing this, Mayhem,” Jade snaps, her eyes flashing with a dangerous, wild heat. “You are not taking three high-ranking members to play stealth tactical fantasy in the woods behind a fortified fentanyl lab!”
“Jade, back off,” Mayhem growls, his broad chest rising as he takes a heavy step forward, trying to use his sheer physical size to intimidate her into dropping it. “This isn’t a debate. It’s club business. You don’t tell us how to run a fucking operation.”
“Club business?” Jade lets out a harsh, incredulous laugh, tosses her lush red hair. “You call walking into an armed hornet’s nest with zero backup club business? Knox isn’t some low-level street corner peddler. He’s a ruthless, paranoid fucking psychopath!”
“We know how to handle ourselves in the dark, Jade!” Mayhem roars back, “We aren’t going in blind. We cut through the western ridge line, get eyes on the perimeter, tag their guard rotations, and get out!”
“And what happens when a spotter catches your shadow on a thermal sweep, huh?” Jade steps even closer, poking a manicured crimson fingernail violently against the center of Mayhem’s leather cut. “What happens when Knox’s men open fire with automatic rifles while you three are trapped in a ditch half a mile from your bikes? What happens then, Mayhem?”
“We aren’t going to get caught!” Mayhem shouts, grabbing her hand mid-air to stop the poking, his large fingers wrapping tightly around her wrist. “Don’t you know that?”
“Let go of me!” Jade snarls, wrenching her arm back with a sharp, furious jerk. “What the fuck?”
I sit frozen in my chair, my heart hammering against my ribs like a trapped bird.
I’ve seen Jade and Mayhem bicker a thousand times – their relationship is built on sharp wit, explosive passion, and constant, playful head-butting. But this isn’t bickering. This is raw desperation tearing through the seams of Jade’s untouchable armor.
I turn in my seat, reaching up to grab Locke’s forearm where he stands behind me. His muscles are corded tight as steel as he watches Mayhem and Jade clash.
“Locke, please,” I whisper, my voice cracking beneath the weight of the fear settling over my chest. My hands are fully functional, my body is stronger than it’s been in months, but right now, I feel completely powerless. “Listen to her, okay? She’s right. If Knox catches you, he won’t try to capture you. He’ll destroy everything… including whoever steps onto that property.”

Locke looks down at me, his eyes softening for a fraction of a second as he reaches down to cover my Tiand with his broad palm. But the hard, unyielding resolve in his face doesn’t shift an inch.
“Zara,” Locke says, his voice Tow and steady, à rock in the middle of a rising storm. “If we wait around to gather a thirty-man assault team, Knox’s spotters down on the highway will see us coming ten miles away. He’ll set fire to the chemical storage, blow the building, and vanish before we even clear the front gates. We lose our only shot at wiping his operation out for good.”
“So you’re just going to risk your life?” I ask, my voice trembling with rising anger. “You’re going to go scope out a chemical plant full of poison and automatic weapons?”
