The MC President's Forsaken Wife (Zara and Knox) novel Chapter 171

Chapter 93-3

Claim

Mayhem slowly pulls back, keeping his hands framing Jade’s tear-stained face, forced to look straight into her bloodshot eyes.

“I hear you, Jade,” Mayhem whispers raspy, his own voice thick with emotion. “I hear every single word. And I swear to God, on my life, on my patch, on everything I am… I am coming home to you. But I have to go tonight.”

Jade lets out a broken, angry breath, trying to pull away, but Mayhem holds her firm.

“Listen to me,” Mayhem commands, his eyes burning with fierce intensity. “Knox set up a poison factory in our territory. He used Zara’s name to build it. He tried to tear Cobra down from the inside.”

“But -” she says.

“No, baby,” Mayhem says, gently now. “If I sit back and let him get away with it because I was afraid of the dark, then I’m not the man you married. I’m the Vice President of this club. It’s my job to clear the path so my family can breathe again.”

Jade closes her eyes, a single shuddering breath escaping her lips as she surrenders to the absolute finality in his voice. She nods once, bitterly, leaning back in to rest her forehead against his chest.

“If you get yourself killed like an asshole,” she mutters into his leather vest, her tone trying for sharp but failing under the weight of her grief. “I’m wearing red to your funeral. Asshole.”

A faint, sad smile touches Mayhem’s lips. “Deal.”

Dad steps forward from the head of the table. The moment of quiet vulnerability shifts back into absolute, deadly tactical focus.

“Locke, Mayhem, prep your gear,” Dad orders. “We leave from the clubhouse garage at midnight. We take the blacked-out SUVS to the county border, park them two miles out in the dense brush, and proceed on foot. We carry suppressed sidearms, night-vision optics, and zero club colors.”

“Understood,” Locke says, his hand tightening one last time over my shoulder before he steps away from my chair to face Cobra.

“Zara,” Dad turns his gaze to me, his dark eyes filled with a terrifying mix of tenderness and determination. “You and Jade are locking down in the penthouse. Locke’s security system has been totally revamped, and three of our best Grinning Skulls brothers are taking the lobby and roof 24/7. You do not leave that apartment until we walk back through the elevator doors.”

The clock on the war room wall ticks over to eight o’clock. Four hours until midnight. Four hours until the men I cherish and adore step into the shadows of Route 9 to face Knox’s fortified nightmare.

My skin cold, my heart heavy with an unbearable dread, I slowly stand up from my chair and hold Locke’s

gaze.

“Listen to me,” I say to him, my voice steady despite the terror threatening to pull me under. “Me and Jade will bunker down in the penthouse… but you bring my brother and my father back alive, Locke. Or don’t fucking bother coming back at all.”
