The MC President's Forsaken Wife (Zara and Knox) novel Chapter 186

Chapter 100-1

The next night

The air in the penthouse feels different when the apartment becomes a command center. The warm, quiet pace of day-to-day life is completely gone, replaced by the hum of cooling fans and the quiet static of radio receivers.

Locke and Mayhem left over two hours ago in a plain black cargo van. They’re wearing simple dark clothing that blends into the thick fog down at the industrial docks. Dad is less than a mile away from the docks with the rest of the Skulls, keeping the men ready in case things go wrong at the harbor.

Here in the penthouse, the only sound is the fast, steady clicking of a keyboard.

Byte is a huge, quiet Skulls member with glasses, dark tattoos covering his throat, and years of computer experience, most of it criminal. His ice-blue eyes never leave the twin screens showing live camera feeds from the port that he’s hacked into directly. A pair of heavy headphones rests around his neck, letting out soft crackles of radio chatter into the quiet room.

I stand behind his left shoulder, my bare feet pressing into the thick rug as I lean in, watching the glowing digital map. Jade stands on his other side, her arms crossed tight over her chest, her eyes moving back and forth between the screens and the dark city outside.

“They’re in position,” Byte says quietly, his long fingers moving across the keyboard. “The truck just cleared the main gate at Pier 12. Reeds Chemical Supply. A large cold-storage trailer loaded with raw chemicals.”

I lean closer, watching a small red dot move slowly across the map of the harbor. “Is Knox’s driver on time?”

“He’s fifteen minutes late,” Byte replies, pulling up a shipping document on the side screen. “The driver’s name is Miller. He’s a mid-level guy working for Knox, and word is that he hates these pick-ups. His heart rate is probably spiking right now.”

On the center screen, a blue dot shows Locke and Mayhem’s black van. It sits turned off in a dark alley behind a row of rusted shipping containers, completely hidden from the dock security guards.

“Locke’s team is blocking the local recording signals,” Byte explains, pointing to lines of scrolling green text on his screen. “The moment Miller pulls that truck into the loading lane, the main security system goes completely blind for ninety seconds. No security footage. No gate records. To the port cameras, that shipment just disappeared.”

My heart beats fast against my ribs. I close my eyes for a brief second, picturing Locke out there in the cold sleet. I see his hard, focused eyes behind a dark mask, the calm and dangerous way he moves.

He’s safe. He knows what he’s doing.

But the cold knot of fear remains in my chest.

“Movement,” Byte mutters, clicking his mouse twice. “Here we go.”

The blue dot shifts position on the map. On the central monitor, the hacked camera feed from a harbor crane opens up in a new window. Through the black-and-white night view, I see the large white trailer of

Claims

A sleek black van glides quietly behind it, blocking the truck’s exit. Two dark figures step out of the side door like shadows.

I hold my breath and Jade and I grasp fingers tightly.

One figure – Locke’s broad, unmistakable shape – walks straight to the driver’s side door of the semi truck, and the screen shows the truck door opening.

There’s no gunfight, no flashes of light or noise. Locke quickly pulls the driver out of the cab, pushes him down to the gravel, and ties his hands behind his back before lifting him into the back of the black van.

The second figure – obviously it’s Mayhem – swings himself smoothly into the driver’s seat of the big chemical truck.

A second later, the truck’s heavy headlights cut off. Mayhem backs the giant eighteen-wheeler out of the loading lane, following Locke’s van toward the rear perimeter.

From the penthouse, Byte works his magic on the keys. He overrides the port’s automated security and silently opens Gate 4, a side exit meant to stay locked and unguarded all night. Mayhem and Locke have already used it to enter the port unseen, and now it’s their secret exit too.
