The MC President's Forsaken Wife (Zara and Knox) novel Chapter 187

Chapter 100-2

The heavy iron gate rolls open just long enough for the truck and van to slip through, bypassing the main security checkpoints completely. The second they clear the boundary, Byte remote-locks the gate behind them, leaving the guard logs untouched.

“Clean,” Byte whispers, giving us a small, care smile as he adjusts his glasses. “Total time: fifty-four seconds. Not a single shot fired. No security alarms went off at the docks.”

“Where are they taking the truck?” Jade asks, stepping closer to him. “And that Miller guy?”

“To a hidden warehouse the club keeps,” Byte says, typing quickly to scramble the truck’s GPS signal. “By morning, those chemical barrels will be emptied into plain containers and hidden underground. To anyone looking at the dock records, that truck simply vanished.”

“And the guy?” Jade asks.

“I don’t know.” Byte shrugs. “I know they won’t kill him, but they have to hold him.”

“Nothing we can do about that,” Jade says, almost to herself. “He knew the risks when he started working for a goddamn MC fentanyl lab.”

“Now comes the real drama,” I say softly. “Byte, turn on the speaker for Knox’s phone line.”

Byte nods, flipping a small black switch on the table. The soft hiss of static fills the living room, followed by the muffled sound of a running engine and heavy breathing over a speakerphone.

For two long minutes, there’s only quiet static. Then, a sharp electronic beep sounds as a second phone

line connects.

“Report,” Knox’s voice comes barking through the speaker. It’s loud, harsh, and filled with anger and arrogance. “Henderson, report.”

My stomach tightens instinctively at the sound of his voice, the same voice that used to terrify me in the dark halls of his house. But I don’t move or back away. I stand still, listening to the edge of panic hidden

under his loud words.

A shaky, nervous voice answers him from the other end. “Boss… boss, we have a problem at Pier 12.””

“That’s the dock manager Knox pays to be in his pocket,” Byte says. “Guy named Henderson.”

“What fucking problem?” Knox growls. “Is the chemical truck out of the gate or not?”

“It’s gone, Knox!” Henderson stammers. “Miller was supposed to come here to the dock office to sign the paper manifests. I was waiting for him, but the truck… it never showed up. I walked back into the loading lane and the whole rig is just gone. Miller’s phone goes straight to voicemail. The bay is empty.”

Silence fills the line. Heavy, terrifying silence.

“What do you mean, gone?” Knox’s voice drops low, turning soft and dangerous. “Did the port authorities confiscate it?”

“No! There are no police cars, no guards, nothing… nobody’s here at all.”

Hean forward, watching the volume meters bounce on Byte’s monitor as Knox’s breathing becomes fast, Tieavy, and uneven over the line.

“Miller sold me out,” Knox snarls suddenly, his voice dripping with rage. “Miller drove that truck out a side gate to sell the product himself. I know he’s in deep to sorne bookies, the kind that fucking cut your throat for non-payment.”

“Knox, Miller has worked for you for five years

“Shut up!” Knox roars, the loud noise crackling through the small speaker. “Nobody knew that delivery time except you, me, and Miller! You think I’m fucking stupid? You think I don’t see what you’re doing?”

“Knox, no! I swear on my life I didn’t -”

“Get back here to the lab right the fuck now,” Knox spits out over the line. The loud, sharp sound of a handgun slide clicking back rings clearly through the speaker. “If that truck isn’t here in two hours, I’m going to personally kill every man who touched those papers.”

The phone call cuts off with a sharp, loud click.

Quiet static returns to the penthouse. Byte turns down the volume dial, leaning back in his chair and looking up at me through his glasses.

Jade lets out a slow breath, shaking her head. “He’s losing his mind.”

“He’s losing his power,” I correct her, feeling a slow sense of relief spread through my chest. “He can’t fulfil Vane’s scheduled drug orders without those chemicals. And instead of looking for us, he’s going to panic and lash out and attack his own men.”

It feels like ten hours later – though it’s only just one, at just past 2 am – the elevator door slides open, and heavy boots walk down the dark hallway.

I turn as Locke walks into the living room, pulling off dark work gloves. His hair is wet from the sleet, his eyes instantly searching the room until they find mine. The tight tension in his broad shoulders melts away the moment he sees me sitting on the sofa with Jade.

“Mayhem’s fine,” he tells her right away, before she can even open her mouth and ask. “He’s taken the truck to the warehouse, and he’s helping to unload the containers and hide them. He’ll call you as soon as he can, he said.”

“Thank you,” Jade says, her relief etched in every word and every line on her face. “I can go take a shower and get to bed now that I know.”

I hug her, and watch her go down to the guest room. She looks exhausted, wrung out with worry and nerves, and I hope that she can get some rest.

“So,” Locke says to me, as Byte starts to pack up his computers and equipment. “Did Knox take the bait?”

I lean against his side, feeling the strong, steady beat of his heart under my palm.

“He didn’t just take it,” I say. “He fell for it completely. He’s going to wreak havoc on his own people, Locke. All we have to do now is watch him lose his goddamn mind.”
