Chapter 124-2
A moment later, I hear the murmur of voices Locke’s deep rumble and Jade’s bright, familiar tone – followed by the thump of something heavy being set down on the floor
The bedroom door swings wider, and Locke steps back into the room. A rare, genuinely amused glint shines in his eyes as he looks down at me
“Zara,” he says, stepping back over to the side of the bed. “I think Jade’s planning on setting up a field hospital in our living room. She came out of that elevator carrying three separate duffel bags and a massive red cooler.”
Clain
A wet, breathless laugh bubbles up from my throat, catching me off guard despite the nausea. “A cooler?”
“A cooler,” Locke confirms with a smirk. “I’m pretty sure she bought out every store between here and her place. I think there’s enough ginger ale and crushed ice out there to supply an entire army.”
The sudden movement of laughing, light as it is, instantly sends a sharp pain.
“Oh, look at you,” Jade’s voice cuts through the dim room. “I guess the dance party’s off, huh?”
I look up blearily through my tears, and despite how awful I feel, my brain stumbles over the sight of her in the doorway.
Jade never wears comfy clothes. She’s the queen of tight leather jackets, form-fitting skirts, high-heeled boots, and flawless, sharp eyeliner, even when she’s just hanging out. But standing in the bedroom doorway right now, she’s completely unrecognizable.
She’s kicked off her shoes at the door, wearing oversized grey sweatpants, a faded vintage band tee, and her red hair is thrown up into a messy bun held together by a pencil. No high heels, no leather, no armor. Just cozy, soft cotton.
She marches straight into the room, holding two overstuffed canvas totes, her usual sharp attitude instantly flaring to cover the obvious worry shining in her eyes.
“Look at this,” Jade says, her tone softening into pure compassion as she looks down at me on the bed. ” Hey, beautiful girl. How are we feeling on a scale of one to absolute hell?”
“About a twelve,” I croak out, my throat raw and burning.
“About where I expected,” Jade says, setting the bags down.
Locke stands up from the edge of the bed. He looks at Jade, then down at me, his jaw tightening slightly.
I know where he needs to be. Knox is freaking out and on the warpath, Dad’s on alert, and Mayhem is expecting Locke down at the warehouse to run security details and hold down the line for the club. He’s already pushed it off as long as he possibly can just to bring me home and hold me through the first wave.
“I need to head down to the warehouse,” Locke says, his voice heavy with the quiet frustration of having to leave. “I fucking hate it, but I gotta go.”
Jade doesn’t boss him or push him out the door; she knows how much it kills him to step away from me right now. She just gives him an understanding, reassuring nod.

Go on, Locke. I’ve got the nursing shift from here. We’ll be fine.”
Clem
Locke stands at the side of the bed for a long, quiet moment. He looks down at me, his gaze trailing over my pale face, his gray eyes burning with that intense, fiercely protective light.
I reach out my shaking, pale hand from beneath the duvet, brushing my fingers against his wrist.
“Go,” I whisper softly, giving him the best smile I can muster. “I’m in good hands. Be careful, okay?”
Locke leans down, his massive frame blotting out the light entirely. He gently cups my face with both of his broad, warm hands, his thumbs stroking over my high cheekbones. He leans in and presses a deep, lingering kiss to my nose, his lips warm and firm against my damp skin.
“I’ll check in every two hours,” he says, his tone leaving zero room for debate. “If you need me, I’m twenty minutes away. I don’t care what’s happening at the warehouse… if you call, I fucking drop everything and I’m back in this room.”
