The MC President's Forsaken Wife (Zara and Knox) novel Chapter 247

Chapter 124-3

“I know,” I say gently. Hove you.”

“I love you, baby.”

He slowly lets go, straightening up to his full, imposing height. He turns to Jade, stepping into her space and wrapping his broad arms around her in a brief, fierce bear-hug of an embrace that almost lifts her off her feet.

“Thanks, Jade,” Locke says, his voice thick with a quiet, profound gratitude. “Seriously.”

“Take care of business, big guy.” Jade hugs him back, slapping his heavy shoulder blade with her palm. “I’ve got her.”

Locke gives us both one last, lingering look from the doorway before he turns and walks out down the hallway. A second later, the elevator door slides open and then shut, leaving the apartment enveloped in a deep, peaceful quiet.

The moment the door closes, my stomach decides that exact second to violently twist into a tight, agonizing knot again.

A sharp, breathless gasp tears from my lips as a fresh surge of bile burns up the back of my throat. It happens so fast that I can’t even say Jade.

“Oh, nope, nope, no way!” Jade shrieks, practically diving across the bedroom floor. “We’re not ruining the floors on my goddamn watch!”

She launches herself onto her knees right beside the bed, sliding like a baseball player to home plate, grabbing the plastic basin off the floor. She shoves it securely under my chin just as my shoulders bow forward in a violent, full-body spasm.

“I’ve got you, Zara,” Jade says, rubbing firm, comforting circles over my spine while her other hand holds the bucket steady. “Let it out, girl. Clear the poison out.”

I heave violently into the plastic, my eyes watering so badly the dark room turns into a blurry smear of shadows and amber light.

Bile burns my throat, my ribs aching with the raw effort of contractions that yield almost nothing, but Jade doesn’t move a single inch. She stays right there on the hard floor, her shoulder pressed against the side of the mattress for balance, holding me up through the worst of it.

When the spasm finally breaks, leaving me gasping, trembling, and completely shattered against the pillows, Jade reaches out and pulls a damp, cool cloth from her own bag – already prepped and iced and presses it gently to the back of my neck.

“God, you really don’t do anything by halves, do you?” Jade says softly, her voice dripping with warm, affection-filled snark as she wipes the sweat from my skin. “If you wanted me to come over for a sleepover in sweatpants, you could have just texted. You didn’t have to throw a whole dramatic sickness performance.”

A small, weak laugh escapes my chest, blending into a shaky sigh as I let my head fall back.

“Thanks for coming, Jade,” I whisper, closing my eyes as the cool cloth soothes the burning heat on my skin “You’re a goddamn rock star.”

Jade shifts, sliding onto the edge of the bed.

“Where the hell else would be?” she says softly, her voice dropping the sarcastic edge, leaving only pure, steady warmth. “Now lie back, get some rest, and let me take care of you for a while.”
