Chapter 125-2
I glance between Cobra and the driver, my eyebrows pulling down. “What’s going on?”
Cobra shifts his weight, his sharp, black eyes moving over to me. “Miller’s clean, Locke.”
“We sure?”
Cham
“He answered every question we asked, gave us the exact routing numbers and the delivery schedules of past shipments,” Mayhem says. “They match up with what you and Zara uncovered. He was just a driver trying to pay off a gambling debt, stupidly working for an MC.”
Cobra tosses the manila envelope into Miller’s lap. “There’s twenty thousand dollars in cash in there, Miller. A clean identity, new driver’s license. Rook is driving you two states over to a bus station, and from there, you’re on your own.”
Miller gulps and nods.
“You don’t come back to this city.” Cobra stares him down. “If Knox finds out you’re alive, he’ll put a bullet in your head. If we see your face in this state again, I’ll put one there myself. Understood?”
Miller holds the envelope tightly against his chest, tears in his eyes. “Yes. Yes, sir. Thank you, Mr. Callahan.”
Mayhem pulls Miller out of the chair, leading him out of the vault toward the back exit tunnel.
As the sound of their footsteps fades down the hallway, the heavy silence of the vault settles over the room again. I look at Cobra.
“The chemicals?”
“Locked down tight and safe,” Cobra says, nodding over at the closed door at the other end of the room.” No problems, no drama.”
“That’s a relief.”
“It is, but life ain’t drama-free. Our boys have been asking around about shit.”
“What kind?”
“Drugs. Word on the street is that Sebastian Vane’s been asking around everywhere to find out who hit the shipments. He’s got his guys searching, looking for any trace of Knox’s stolen transport trucks.”
“Any sense that he suspects us?”
“None. Knox was stupid enough to promise the delivery personally to get Vane’s backing and investment, so right now, all his rage is aimed right at Knox.”
I lean back against the concrete wall, thinking about the news. Knox played a dangerous game and backed himself into a corner. By losing the haul, he’s exposed himself to a monster far worse than us.
“Vane is dangerous,” I remark. “A cornered animal like Knox, with Vane hunting him, is going to get desperate fast. He’ll lash out.”
“Let him try,” Cobra says coldly.

Okay, I say. “So Miller gave up the drug lab access points. I want to use them to build a clear floor plan with Byte before Knox realizes his blind spots are open.”
“Byte is upstairs in the comm’s room,” Cobra says, pointing toward the stairs. “He’s waiting for you.”
I leave the vault and head up the secondary iron staircase, stepping out of the deep concrete basement. The second I reach the ground level, my phone vibrates twice in my pocket, regaining signal after being blocked by fifty feet of solid concrete and bedrock.
I pull it out quickly, my heart beating fast as I check the screen.
It’s a text from Jade:
She’s sleeping now. Kept half a cup of water down. Go do your bad boy shit, big guy. We’re good.
A wave of huge relief washes over me. The tension in my shoulders relaxes enough for me to take a full, deep breath. Zara is safe.
I slide the phone back into my leather cut and push through a heavy reinforced door into the tactical room of the warehouse, totally repurposed and revamped. The room is dimly lit, filled with big glowing computer monitors displaying satellite feeds, map layouts, and data streams.
Byte sits in his high-backed office chair, three monitors casting a cool blue light over his face. His fingers move across his keyboard with fast, practiced skill.
“Tell me Miller wasn’t lying,” I say, stepping up beside his desk and resting my hands flat on the edge. “That we have a really good overview of that fucking lab.”
“He wasn’t lying,” Byte says without stopping, pulling up a clear 3D digital map of a large industrial compound. “I took the simple hand drawings Miller gave Cobra, checked them against city sewer maps, and placed them over our drone photos. Everything matches.”
A blue digital model of Knox’s drug compound spreads across his main screen. Blue lines mark the outside walls, while red highlighted areas show security cameras, gates, and guard posts.
“Show me the blind spots, man,” I say.
Byte presses a key, and a section of the basement level beneath Knox’s main warehouse lights up in bright yellow.
“Right here,” Byte says, pointing at the screen. “Miller gave us the exact location of the old drainage pipe under the loading dock. Knox closed the main storm drain years ago, but Miller confirmed the smaller overflow pipe was left unblocked to let rain water run into the river. Its entrance isn’t covered by any of the outside motion sensors.”
I lean in closer, studying the map with sharp focus. My finger traces the yellow path running under the compound’s main wall, coming up right inside Knox’s private armory and drug loading area.
“He has no security cameras in this lower pipe?” I ask.
“None,” Byte confirms. “The thick concrete blocks heat signals, just like our meatpacking vault below. If we send a four-man team through the pipe, we can walk out right behind Knox’s loading bay before his alarm system even registers a problem.”
Chapter 125
“Good,” I say, a possible plan forming clearly in my mind. “This is fucking great, Byte.”
† stand up straight, looking at the digital blueprint of the place where Knox thinks he’s safe. He has Sebastian Vane hunting him down, the Skulls holding his stolen fortune, and now, a hidden doorway straight into the center of his building.
Knox has no idea his time is running out.
