Chapter 126-1
Zara
Three days after the poison dripped into my veins, the storm inside my body finally breaks.
The violent, gut-wrenching nausea that usually leaves me shattered has receded to a dull, manageable ache. My appetite is slowly creeping back, my legs no longer feel like hollow glass, and the gray, sickly cast to my skin has yielded to a faint, rosy flush.
Jade stayed through the worst of it. For seventy-two hours, she transformed our living space into a command center of ice packs, clear broths, ginger tea, and endless bad reality television.

She hovered over me like a fierce, protective hawk until an hour ago, when Mayhem finally drove up to the penthouse to collect her and bring her back home. She gave me arbone-crushing hug, threatened to beat Locke within an inch of his life if he didn’t make me finish my soup, and went home with her husband.
Now, the penthouse is wrapped in a profound, peaceful quiet.
It’s late afternoon, and a silent, heavy snowstorm is rolling in over the mountains in the distance. Great, thick white flakes drift lazily past the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, blurring the sharp lines of the pine trees and painting the high peaks in blinding white.
I’m curled up on the soft, oversized sofa in the main living room, wrapped in a lush cashmere blanket. Locke is sitting right beside me, his massive frame anchored firmly against the cushions.
One of his long, heavy legs is stretched out along the couch, creating a warm, solid pocket for me to cuddle into. His large, tattooed arms are wrapped securely around my waist, his hands resting over my lower back, holding me close. He’s completely still, his deep, rhythmic breathing rising and falling against my cheek, his chin resting lightly against the crown of my head.
We don’t speak for a long time. We just watch the snow come down, letting the quiet blanket the world outside.
After everything we’ve been through – the endless hospital visits, the days of nausea and pain afterwards, the dark threats hanging over the MC – moments like this feel like a sanctuary. A fragile, golden pocket of time where nothing else exists except the two of us.
I let my eyes drift shut for a moment, simply immersing myself in the solid heat that is Locke Tanner. There’s an incredible, indescribable comfort in knowing that no matter how hostile the outside world becomes, this man is my immovable shield.
I shift slightly in his hold, turning my face into his neck, feeling the steady pulse beating beneath his skin.
“Locke?” I whisper softly, my hand sliding down to cover his broad knuckles.
“Yeah, baby?” he says, his breath fanning across my hairline.
I hesitate for a brief second, gathering my courage. “Can I ask you something?”
Locke’s arms tighten gently around my waist. He turns his head slightly, pressing his lips to my temple before resting his chin back on my crown.

“You can ask me anything, Zara,” he says, his deep voice carrying an absolute, steady weight. “We agreed on that. No secrets, no lies. Other than the classified club logistics we’ve already talked about, my life is completely open to you.”
I take a slow, quiet breath. “You promised a while ago that you’d tell me the whole story about Evelyn and her stalker when the time was right. Can you tell me now?”
The room falls into a profound, heavy silence. Outside, the white flakes continue their lazy descent against the glass, but inside, the air grows still and solemn. Locke doesn’t pull away, and his touch doesn’t falter, but I feel the subtle, powerful shift in his frame.
The shift is the quiet hardening of a man opening a vault he usually keeps double-locked. I can feel the tension winding tight through his back, the sudden stillness of a man bracing himself to step back into a memory that burned him to the bone.
He takes a deep, slow breath, his chest expanding fully against me before he lets it out.
“Yeah,” he says softly. “I can tell you now.”
He shifts slightly, adjusting his grip so his arm stays around my back, while he laces his thick fingers firmly through mine.
