The MC President's Forsaken Wife (Zara and Knox) novel Chapter 292

Chapter 144-2

I nod.

“But taking a third run on a third truck? Knox is expecting it. He and that fucker Vane are going to have heavily armed escorts, route changes, surveillance… it’s a trap waiting to spring. Stealing two shipments was plenty.”

She stops, taking a sharp breath, her fingers tightening around her mug until her knuckles turn white.

“But I can’t say that to him,” she says quietly, looking down at her coffee. “I can’t say a word of that to Mayhem. At least not right now.”

“Because he’d see it as taking Cobra’s side?”

“Because he’d see it as a lack of faith in him,” Jade corrects softly, her voice laced with deep,

unconditional love and a profound frustration. “You know how he is, Zara. I love that man more than anythi ng in this world. I love him more than my own life.”

“I know.”

“But right now? Right now, he’s so blinded by his own pride and anger that any voice of reason sounds like disloyalty to him. If I tell him I think Cobra is right, he’ll think I don’t believe in his ability to lead an assault. He’ll think I don’t trust him to keep his men safe.”

She lets out a bitter, quiet laugh, shaking her head as a stray strand of hair falls across her face.

“It’s just… it’s exhausting,” she admits. “The person I usually go to when I’m losing my mind, the person I rely on to anchor me when everything around the club gets chaotic… is Mayhem. He’s my rock.”

“I get it, Jade.”

“But I can’t confide in him when he’s the one tearing the house down. I had nowhere else to turn, and I just really needed to say all of this out loud to someone who actually understands how this life works.”

“I’m glad you came here, Jade. And yeah, I totally get it. Every word.”

Jade reaches out and gives my hand a quick, grateful squeeze, her tense shoulders dropping another inch. She takes a real, deep sip of her coffee this time, letting the warm liquid settle her nerves.

“What does Locke think about the not-heist?” Jade asks, her sharp green eyes looking into mine with genuine curiosity. “Did he say anything to you about Cobra’s decision?”

“Locke agrees with my Dad,” I tell her honestly. “Completely.”

Jade blinks, listening intently.

“Locke told me the exact same thing you just said,” I say. “He said hitting two shipments gave the chapter total leverage with minimal exposure. Trying to pull off a third hit on the same supply line isn’t strategy… it’s greed and recklessness. Not worth the risk at all.”

“Thank God. At least Locke has a cool head on his shoulders. I was worried Mayhem had dragged half the club into his crusade.”

Clan

“Mayhem isn’t crazy, Jade,” I say gently, picking up a pancake with my fork and taking a bite. “He’s just… Mayhem.

“He’s a warrior at heart, Jade says, a soft, affectionate warmth returning to her tone as she finally cuts into her own breakfast. “That’s his biggest flaw and his greatest asset Mayhem’s built for conflict, hard-wired for action, so to him, sitting still, waiting, and playing tactical defense feels like weakness. It feels like submission.”

“He sees Dad making a cautious, calculated decision, and his brain translates it as stepping down or backing off from a fight.”

“Exactly,” Jade sighs, taking a bite of the fluffy pancake and humming in appreciation despite her mood. “God, these are incredible, Zara. Seriously. But yeah… he’s so stubborn. He measures strength by how hard you hit, not by when you choose to hold your punch.”

“He’ll come around,” I reassure her gently. “Once the initial sting of the decision wears off, Mayhem will see the bigger picture. Dad knows what he’s doing, and Mayhem respects him too much to stay blind forever. He just needs a few days to burn off the excess steam.”

“I know,” Jade says, her voice softer now, the dark cloud over her features finally beginning to dissipate. She sets her fork down, leaning back against her barstool and looking around the pristine, quiet luxury of the penthouse kitchen. “I really appreciate you listening to me vent. I felt like my head was going to explode this morning.”
