The MC President's Forsaken Wife (Zara and Knox) novel Chapter 314

Chapter 154-1

‘Zara! Jesus Christ, I got you!”

Rough, heavy hands catch me in mid-air before I can slam into the floor.

The world is spinning violently in tight, nauseating circles, a gray and black blur of ceiling lights, sofa cushions, and my brother’s panicked face hovering inches above mine.

My chest heaves, but I can’t catch a full breath; the room feels completely devoid of oxygen.

Clam

‘Zara, look at me.” His voice is sharp, cracked with a raw, unadulterated terror I’ve never heard from him in my entire life. “Hey, look at me!”

He eases me back down onto the sofa, laying me out flat against the soft cushions. He’s kneeling, hovering right over me, his broad shoulders blocking out the light, his big hands cupping my cheeks, holding my head still.

His face is deathly pale, the hard, dangerous Vice President completely gone, replaced by a terrified brother whose eyes are wide and wild with panic.

‘I’m… I’m okay,” I gasp out, though the words sound weak, paper-thin, and slurred in my own ears. ‘Mayhem, I’m… I’m fine…”

‘The hell you are!” he snaps, his hands flying to my shoulders, checking my arms, checking my neck as if I’ve been shot. “Your eyes rolled right into the back of your head. You went completely limp.”

‘Just dizzy,” I whisper, swallowing hard against the sudden, sharp wave of cold nausea rising in my throat. My skin feels clammy and ice-cold, a sudden cold sweat breaking out across my forehead. “Just… dizzy.”

‘Stay right there. Don’t you dare fucking move.”

He lunges across the living room, grabbing the glass pitcher of cold water from the dining table. He doesn’t bother with a glass; he brings the entire pitcher back, dropping to his knees on the hardwood floor right beside the sofa so he’s level with my head.

He gently slides one heavy hand behind my neck, lifting my head an inch off the cushion, and presses the rim of the pitcher to my lower lip.

“Drink,” he commands. “Small sips, Zara. Come on, drink for me.”

I take a few small, shaky swallows of the icy water. The cold liquid hits my stomach, cutting through the sharp edge of the nausea, and slowly – very slowly – the violent black static at the edges of my vision begins to recede.

He sets the pitcher down on the floor with a heavy thud, but he doesn’t stand up.

“Talk to me,” he demands, his eyes searching every inch of my face. “What the hell was that? Does this happen often? Are you in pain?”

“No,” I say, slowly closing my eyes and letting my head sink deeper into the cushion. The room is still swaying slightly, but the violent spin is gone. “No pain. I just… I stood up too fast.”

“Bullshit, he growls, a flash of his usual aggression breaking through, though his touch on my forehead remains infinitely gentle, brushing my damp hair back from my face. “You didn’t just stand up fast, Zara. You fainted. You went dead weight in my arms.”

“I’ve been stressed, say honestly. “I haven’t been sleeping great with Locke gone. My mind just… keeps running. I’m worried about him, I’m worried about the test results next week, and I guess I’ve just been pushing myself too hard. I skipped breakfast, and I haven’t been drinking enough water. That’s all.”

He sits back on his heels, his dark brows pulled down into a deep, furious crease. He stares at me, his mouth set in a hard, unyielding line.

“That’s it,” he says flatly, standing up to his full height. “We’re going to the hospital. Right now.”

“What? No!” I protest, instantly trying to push myself up on my elbows.

The moment I lift my head, a fresh wave of lightheadedness hits me, and his hand instantly slams down gently on my shoulder, pinning me back down against the leather.

“Stay down!” he barks. “You’re not arguing with me on this, Zara. Where are your truck keys? I’m taking you straight to the emergency room.”

“Mayhem, listen to me.” I force my voice to take on a firm, sharp edge, “Going to the ER is completely useless, okay? You know how it is down there. The waiting room will be packed, and I’ll be sitting on a hard plastic chair in a crowded hallway for sixteen hours while they run routine bloodwork that takes three days to come back anyway.”
