The MC President's Forsaken Wife (Zara and Knox) novel Chapter 370

Chapter 183-1

“Great! Head right over there, Zara.” Dr. Innis nods over at the exam table in the corner. “You can lie down comfortably. Locke, there’s a chair right beside the monitor for you.”

I step over to the examination table and lie back against the crisp paper lining, pulling up the hem of my sweater just enough to expose my lower stomach. The paper crinkles under me, but my eyes are fixed on the small screen mounted to the wall arm.

Locke moves with quiet, deliberate purpose, dragging the heavy wooden chair right up to the side of the table so he’s sitting inches from my shoulder.

Dr. Innis applies a small squeeze of clear gel to the ultrasound wand. “This might feel a little cold for a second,” she warns cheerfully before pressing the transducer gently against my

skin.

The cool sensation makes me catch my breath, but within seconds, the image on the wall–mounted screen flickers to life: a grainy, grayscale landscape of dark shadows and soft white light. Dr. Innis subtly adjusts the angle of the wand, fine–tuning the focus.

“And… right there.” Dr. Innis points to the center of the monitor.

There, nestled snugly in the center of the screen, is a tiny, perfectly formed shape.

“Oh,” I gasp, my breath catching entirely in my chest. “Oh, my.”

“There’s your baby,” Dr. Innis says softly, her voice filled with quiet delight. “Right on target size–wise for ten weeks. Look right here at the center… see that rapid, fluttering pulse?”

She presses a button on the machine, and suddenly, the quiet room is filled with a loud, rhythmic, thunderous, whooshing sound:

Thump–thump–thump–thump–thump–thump.

The sound fills every corner of the room, strong, vibrant, and impossibly fast. It sounds like a tiny, unstoppable engine revving with pure life, echoing off the quiet walls.

A tear finally breaks free, tracking slowly down my cheek. I stare at the screen, my eyes locked on that fluttering, beating heart, feeling the incredible weight of the miracle unfolding

inside me.

–

After everything my body went through the grueling treatments, the hospital rooms, the agonizing fear that my future had been stolen from me before it even started – here is life. And it’s fierce, vibrant, and unshakeable.

I look over at Locke.

+25 Points

“Heart rate is sitting at a crisp 165 beats per minute,” Dr. Innis announces, her voice breaking through the sound. “Strong, steady, and exactly where we want it to be. The gestational sac looks wonderfully healthy, and the developmental measurements are textbook.”

Every metric she tells us is another layer of assurance, another weight lifting off my chest.

“I’m so thrilled. You have no idea.”

“And truly,” Dr. Innis says, as I sit up and smooth my sweater down. “I couldn’t have asked for a better first appointment. You’re healthy, your baby is thriving, and you’re just two short weeks away from clearing the first trimester with flying colors.”

“I can’t thank you enough, Dr. Innis,” I say, as Locke helps me pivot my legs off the table, his hand resting firm and supportive on my waist. “Honestly, walking into this office today… I was prepared for caution, endless restrictions, and strict rules. I didn’t expect it to feel so… jo yful.”
