I sit up and smooth down my shirt, Locke steps back, leaning against the counter with his arms

crossed over his chest. A glint enters his eyes.

“Doctor,” Locke asks, tilting his head toward the dark screen. “Can you tell the s*x of the baby yet?”

“At twelve weeks? It’s a bit too early to be definitive on a standard ultrasound. The anatomical

structures are still developing.” She arches an eyebrow, looking between the two of us. “Do you two want to find out early? At the next appointment, maybe?”

“Well,” I say, tapping my chin thoughtfully. “Locke has already convinced himself it’s a boy. He’s probably planning on buying a miniature motorcycle leather vest by next week.”

Locke raises an eyebrow with a cool, amused smirk. “I don’t need a scan to know I can handle whatever comes out. Girl or boy, that kid is going to be running the clubhouse by age three. But let’s be honest, Zara… you’re the one who’s been secretly browsing nursery colors online for a girl.”

“I have not!” I laugh, popping his shoulder lightly. “I just said sage green and gold look nice! That’s

neutral!”

“Right. Neutral,” Locke drawls, his eyes flashing with warmth and humor. He steps closer, reaching down to pull me off the edge of the exam table and straight against his solid chest. “So what do you think, baby? You want an envelope with a color inside in four weeks, or do you want to wait?”

I look up into his eyes, feeling the steady beat of his heart against my palm. The idea of holding onto this sweet, secret mystery together feels like the ultimate gift after so many months of chaos

and danger.

I turn back to Dr. Innis.

“We’re going to wait,” I say firmly. “We want to find out the moment the baby is born.”

Locke grins. “Works for me. I like surprises.”

“You do not.”

“Okay, okay… I like surprises where you’re concerned, baby.”

“You’d better, handsome.”

“I shouldn’t say this,” Dr. Innis says. “But you two might just be my favorite parents. Don’t go telling

anyone at the front desk I said that.”

I laugh out loud. “Your secret is completely safe with us, Doctor.”

We gather our things, and within ten minutes, we’re stepping out of the cool, sterile clinic and back into the bright afternoon sun. Locke holds the truck door open for me, his large hand cupping my

elbow until I’m safely settled in the passenger seat.

Locke climbs into the driver’s seat, turning the key. He shifts into gear and glances over at me.

“Alright,” he says. “Now that we’ve got the three months behind us… let’s tell the club.”

I turn in my seat. “We’re going over to the clubhouse right now?”

“Nah, baby.” Locke takes the turn heading toward the city center instead. “I booked out Saffron and

Silk.”

My jaw drops slightly. Saffron and Silk is one of the highest-rated, most incredible Thai spots in the city. It’s an upscale, gorgeous venue where getting a single table usually requires weeks of planning, calling in favors, and crossing your fingers.

“You booked out Saffron and Silk?” I echo, staring at him in disbelief. “For the MC?”

“The whole damn place,” Locke replies. “I called the owner three days ago and paid whatever number he threw at me to close the doors for the night. They do full vegan menus, so Willow can have whatever she wants, and the guys can eat until they pass out.”

“Really?”

“Really, baby. Cobra, Mayhem and Jade are already sending the boys over there right now. We’re meeting them at five.”

I lean back against the headrest, looking over at Locke’s drop-dead handsome profile as he drives. The idea of thirty leather-clad, rough-around-the-edge bikers taking over a high-end Thai restaurant is so completely absurd that I burst into helpless laughter.

“What?” Locke asks. “What’s funny?”

“Nothing. Just imagining the boys trying to use jade chopsticks in a fine-dining room.”

“They’ll manage,” Locke grins, pulling the truck onto the main boulevard. “And if they drop anything, we’ll make them use the kid-friendly training chopsticks.”

I burst out laughing, the image of a giant, tattooed badass biker trying to pick up a spring roll with

bright pink chopsticks taking root in my mind.

“Locke, you wouldn’t dare.”

“Try me, baby. I’ve already got Jade bringing a box of them, just in case.”

“You do not.”

“It was her idea.”

“Yeah, okay,” I reflect. “That actually does sound right.”
