She stands up, her stilettos clicking sharply against the hardwood floor with a rhythmic, confident beat as she walks over to the map wall, her hips swaying with effortless grace

“You had a brilliant foundation, Zara,” Jade says, gesturing toward the color key neatly drawn on the side of the main board. “I took your original filing system and expanded it.”

“You – you what?”

“Yes. Red tabs for high-risk assets, blue for transport, green for cash flow, and neon pink for the completely bullshit shell companies Knox thought he was hiding. I cross-referenced everything Locke lifted from his dark run, mapped out the movement networks, and laid out the entire visual board so even the dimmest member in this club can understand it at a glance.”

Locke lets out a low whistle, walking up to the board and staring at the intricate web of connections. “You built a command center.”

“I built a system,” Jade corrects him with a wicked smile, tapping the corkboard with the cap of her gold pen. “I turned Knox’s mess into a roadmap. I’ve been practically living in here, fueling myself on cold espresso, and turning myself into the Skulls’ best resident intelligence operative. Well, third best after you two, I mean.”

I run my fingers along the edge of the trestle table, looking at the neatly bound binders.

Everything is indexed. Every single scrap of paper Locke brought back has been assigned a home, analyzed, and linked to a master spreadsheet. The overwhelming mountain of chaos that made my head spin has been transformed into a sleek archive.

“You didn’t just organize it,” I say, turning to look at her in awe as the full realization hits me. “Jade, you gave us a weapon.”

“I what?”

“If we’re going to dismantle Knox’s whole mess – if we’re going to take every single piece of it away from his club and leave Grit with nothing – we have to know exactly what we’re taking apart. You can’t strip an engine down if you don’t know how the pieces fit together. You just mapped out his entire machine for us.”

“Of course I did,” Jade says, tossing her head back with a laugh. “Did you really think I’d sit out in the bar pouring draft beers while you guys did all the heavy lifting? Please. I like looking pretty, but I like winning even more.”

Locke and I grin at each other.

“If we’re taking Knox’s ernpire away brick by brick, I wanted to make sure we didn’t leave a single stone standing,” Jade says crisply. “Besides, watching Cobra try to figure out where Knox was hiding his money was giving me a heart attack. I had to step in before he tried to burn the boxes out of frustration.”

Locke chuckles. He reaches out, lightly tapping one of the flowcharts with his index finger. “Cobra would’ve definitely set fire to them. You saved us a headache, Jade. A massive one.”

“You’re damn right I did,” Jade says, resting one hand on her hip while she admires her work. “And the best

part? I kept track of every single discrepancy.”

“What do you mean?” I ask.

“Every time a number didn’t match or a shipment went cold, I flagged it. I’ve got three master folders sitting right there on the desk waiting for you to look them over, Zara. You’re the one with the photographic memory, and I know you’ll see what I missed.”.

A sudden, overwhelming burst of relief washes through me, so strong my knees feel a little weak. The crushing weight of feeling behind, of feeling like ‘d failed the club while recovering, completely vanishes into thin air.

I walk up to Jade and throw my arms around her neck. She startles for a split second, then she lets out a low laugh and hugs me back tightly, her floral perfume mixing with the sharp scent of fresh paper and printer ink.

“Thank you,” I murmur, pulling back to look at her glowing face. “You have no idea what a gift this is. I was terrified we were walking into a blind spot.”

“Don’t get all mushy on me, Callahan,” Jade says, adjusting her glasses with a playful smirk as she steps back toward the desk. “Must be the pregnancy hormones, huh?”

I lean over the desk, squinting at the glasses. “Wait a second… I have to ask. I’ve never seen you wear glasses before. Are those actually prescription, or are you just committing to the aesthetic?”

Jade lowers the glasses to the tip of her nose, giving me a slow, sexy wink over the rims.
