Mayhem glances over as Jade and Byte come in, then he leans over the map.

“Grit will use the access roads along the South Bank. It’s the only route wide enough for

commercial freight trucks that doesn’t pass through the city’s automated scale stations. If

he tries to move that volume, he has to funnel his entire operational line right through the

industrial canal corridor.”

The room falls into a heavy, calculating silence. The tactical beauty of the trap settles over

the table like a lead weight:

We don’t need a fast court system.

We let bureaucracy take its slow, agonizing days, relying on Vane’s own corruption to pass

him the poisoned chalice.

Jade smiles. “It’s so clean, because it strips Vane’s psycho kill squad out of the equation entirely. Vane’s private security won’t fight a law enforcement threat and they won’t drive trucks of chemicals… they’ll leave Grit to handle the heavy haul alone.”

Locke lets out a low, rough laugh, shaking his head as he stares at me. “God damn, Cobra. She really is your daughter, huh? She’s using his own paid informants to trick him into moving his whole operation right into our hands.”

Dad doesn’t smile, but the hard lines around his mouth soften with immense pride. “Zara’s a

Callahan. She knows how to bleed an enemy dry.”

“Goddamn right,” Jade says.

Dad looks over at Byte, who’s standing in the doorway holding his encrypted tablet. “Byte, fire

that filing. Set the fuse.”

“I’ve got it templated with Apex Logistics’ corporate tax credentials and Knox’s digital power-of-attorney signatures,” Byte says, tapping the screen. “Filing submitted.”

“Now we just wait for Vane’s clerk to read it and send up the alarm.” I smile down at Xena, who’s pawing anxiously at my boots, clearly responding to the tension in the room. “It

shouldn’t be long.”

“We play the long game,” Dad says. “No rash moves. We keep the boys disciplined, maintain

surveillance on the warehouse, and let Vane digest the news. When he gets Grit and his boys

to start moving his trucks, we’ll be waiting.”

“Check out these exit options that Mayhem pointed out,” Locke says. “Grit isn’t taking the main highway. He’ll avoid the weigh stations and highway traffic cameras. He’s going to use

the back industrial access roads.”

Dad steps up to the other side of the map. “Look at the iron bridge on the old quarry road. It’s the only route out of that sector that bypasses the municipal traffic monitoring grid.”

“That’s where we trap them,” Locke says. “We place teams on the embankment above the road. When Grit’s transport trucks hit that bridge, we box them in from both ends. No room to turn those heavy rigs around, no line of sight for Vane’s security detail if they’re trying to

cover him from the highway.”

“And we hold the high ground,” Mayhem says. “They’re trapped with nowhere to go, and we can see everything from above.”

I walk over to stand beside Locke, staring at the marked choke point on the paper map. The physical reality of what we’re setting in motion fills the air: not a wild, frantic street brawl, but a cold, calculated operation executed with terrifying precision.

The immediate tension in the room settles into a quiet, focused anticipation. The fuse is lit: a quiet, strategic chess match where we force our enemy to dismantle himself while we hold

all the cards.

Locke turns to me, the hard, lethal edge in his eyes softening completely as he looks at me. “You gave us the high ground, Zara. Now we just let Vane and Grit burn their own houses

down.”

“And we toast marshmallows over the flames,” I say. “Make s’mores.”

Locke laughs. “Well… you do love s’mores, baby.”

“Hold on,” Mayhem interrupts. “Are we talking regular marshmallows or the ones with the chocolate already inside them? Because if I’m standing watch over a burning million-dollar drug lab in the freezing cold, I have standards.”
