Vane lets out a chuckle, leaning back against the leather, swirling his scotch. “Arrogant. I respect it.
Go on.”
“I’m here to appeal to you as a businessman,” I tell him, leaning forward slightly, letting my dress gape, giving him a flash of my breasts. “I want to work with you.”
For the second time in less than two minutes, Vane’s eyebrows shoot up. The genuine surprise on his face is delicious. He sets his glass down with a quiet clink.
“You want to work with me,” he states, testing the words as if searching for a punchline. “Knox’s mistress. The girl who was sobbing on the floor while I put a hole in her man.”
“Knox was a stepping stone who turned out to be weak,” I say, lying without a shred of hesitation or emotion. “I have no loyalty to dead men. I have goals.”
“And what are your goals, Ms. Chastain?” Vane asks, his tone sharpening, the playful edge vanishing. “Because if this involves me tangling with Cobra and Mayhem Callahan, you can walk right back out those doors. The Grinning Skulls are a hornets‘ nest that I have no intention of kicking without cause.”
I flutter my eyelashes, letting out a soft, melodic laugh that carries no joy. Only venom.
“Oh, Mr. Vane,” I murmur, slanting my gaze toward him. “Don’t pretend you haven’t already been stung by them. Tell me… who blew up three trucks full of drugs, money and equipment last week?”
Vane’s entire frame goes utterly rigid.
The casual lounge in his spine disappears. His eyes narrow into two lethal slits, the ambient warmth of the lounge evaporating from the booth in a heartbeat. The air turns freezing cold.
“How do you know about that?” Vane whispers, his voice dropped so low it vibrates in his chest like a growling predator. “How the f**k do you know?”
“Because I made a few phone calls to the Night Howlers‘ lone survivor,” I say, leaning back and resting my chin on my hand. “I found out that their club is dead. They’re completely leaderless… Cain is hooked up to machines in an ICU, and Grit is rotting in a morgue. And my source confirmed it was the Grinning Skulls who carried out the ambush on your trucks.”
I pause, letting the silence stretch.
“One member survived and escaped the initial purge,” I continue softly. “He came running to hide in Knox’s old safehouse. Crusher Wallis. He told me everything before he died – possibly from his injuries.”

Vane doesn’t flinch, because Vane already knows. Vane was the one who tracked Crusher down
and executed him to keep the breach quiet.
you know,” Vane says quietly, his mind working behind those cold blue eyes, analyzing every piece of data. “You know the Grinning Skulls hit my revenue stream… and I’m assuming you know I took their best man in retaliation.”
“I have Locke Tanner hidden away right now, bleeding and silent. Which brings us back to my first question: what could you possibly offer me?”
“And?”
“And when they figure out where you’re holding Locke, they won’t sue you. They’ll unleash an organized army of violent bikers across every street you operate on, and your sleek guards in Italian suits are going to get slaughtered. Your men are great, but the Grinning Skulls are better. We
“You need dirty muscle,” I press on. “You need men who know how MCs think, how they fight, how they move weapons, and where they hide. You need a crew that isn’t afraid to hit the Skulls in the mud.”
