The MC President's Forsaken Wife (Zara and Knox) novel Chapter 491

Chapter 241-1

St. Jude’s Church sits on a quiet, tree–lined avenue in the older district of the city, its gray

stone spires reaching up into the overcast sky.

At the front of the nave sit two polished mahogany caskets. Brick’s casket is flanked by his

brother Bison and a small group of old military veterans in dark suits. Spoon’s casket –

smaller and surrounded by white lilies – is before Mr. and Mrs. Gentry, Spoon’s grandparents,

and Daisy.

–

The club is respecting Mr. Gentry’s boundary, but they haven’t abandoned their brothers.

Twenty motorcycles are parked three blocks away, lined up in tight, perfect rank along the curb where they can’t be seen. We all – including Dad, Mayhem, Jade, and myself – sit quietly

in the back three rows of the church.

The men neat black coats over their cuts, keeping their colors tucked away out of respect for the grieving family, remaining entirely silent as the priest conducts the traditional rites.

The service is heartbreaking. Watching Spoon’s grandmother press her wrinkled forehead against the cool mahogany of her grandson’s casket as the choir sings brings fresh tears to my eyes. Beside me, Jade gently rests her hand on my shoulder, while Mayhem sits staring straight ahead, his jaw tight enough to snap iron.

When the service concludes, the procession moves to the city cemetery on the hill.

Again, the club stays back. As the caskets are lowered into the damp earth under a cluster of black umbrellas, the Skulls stand near the edge of the cemetery tree line, a quiet, immovable wall of dark coats standing in silent guard while the families lay flowers onto the vaults.

I watch from under my umbrella as the priest sprinkles holy water over the polished mahogany, his words carried away by the wind.

Looking at the rows of gravestones stretching across the rain–slicked hillsides, I’m acutely aware of the deep history of this ground. Generations of families have stood in this exact mud, clutching damp handkerchiefs and searching for answers in a gray sky.

Beside me, my father stands completely still, the rain dripping from the brim of his dark cap onto the collar of his coat He doesn’t flinch or adjust his stance, his eyes fixed on the two

Out near the perimeter, two patrol cars sit idling by the cemetery gates, the police officers

watching us through wiped windshields. Even out here on holy ground, the outside world

treats us as a threat, completely blind to the profound, quiet reverence holding twenty men in

absolute silence against the tree line.
