The Genie’s Bargain-1
The whisper had barely faded when every candle in the chamber erupted at once, their flames stretching unnaturally high before turning violet, and Iva’s body jerked violently in Caleb’s arms as a force far stronger than anything he had felt before tore through the room.
“Iva!”
Her head snapped backward.
Her eyes opened.
They were no longer hers.
Violet light burned where her irises should have been, and the expression that settled across her face was so cold and unfamiliar that Caleb’s entire body went rigid.
Melissandre immediately stepped backward.
“Do not touch her.”
Caleb ignored her.
“That thing is inside her.”
“I know.”
“Then get it out.”
“I cannot.”
His head turned sharply toward her.
“You had better find a way.”
The stone floor cracked beneath Caleb’s feet as his Lycan power surged through him, the pressure filling the chamber until even the candles trembled.
The woman wearing Iva’s face smiled.
Not Iva’s smile.
Something ancient.
Something amused.
“Oh, Caleb Adama.”
Her voice was almost playful.
“You are exactly as impatient as I remember.”
Caleb’s eyes narrowed.
“You know who I am.”
“Of course.”
The genie tilted Iva’s head.
“I know who you are, who she is, what she has forgotten, what she remembers, and what she will eventually remember if you fail to stop me.”
Caleb took one step forward.
“Release her.”
The genie laughed softly.
“You still think you are giving orders.”
The chamber shook.
Caleb’s claws emerged.
Melissandre immediately stepped between them.
“Caleb, control yourself.”
“She is using Iva.”
“And that is precisely why you cannot attack her.”
His gaze remained fixed on Iva.
The genie smiled wider.
“There.”
She whispered.
“That anger.”
Caleb’s jaw tightened.
“You enjoy provoking me.”
“I enjoy watching powerful creatures discover how powerless they truly are.”
His hands curled into fists.
“You have seconds to explain yourself.”
“Or what?”
The genie leaned closer.
“You will kill the body containing the very woman you have spent all this time trying to recover?
Caleb froze.
Melissandre’s eyes sharpened.
“That is why you chose her.”
