The Messenger( Iva) novel Chapter 109

Arguments-2

Her heart skipped.

Slowly, almost cautiously, she pulled her phone out of her bag.

And froze completely.

Caleb.

Claim

His name stared back at her from the screen, bright and undeniable, sending a sudden rush of heat and tension through her entire body.

For a second, she could not move.

Could not breathe.

Why now?

After all that silence… why now?

Her fingers tightened slightly around the phone as a thousand thoughts raced through her mind, none of them clear, none of them steady.

Then, with a long, controlled breath, she answered.

“…Hello?”

Her voice was softer than she intended.

Careful.

Guarded.

But the moment the voice on the other side responded-

She went still.

“Where are you?”

Caleb’s tone was low, controlled, but there was something beneath it, something sharp and unyielding that sent a faint chill down her spine.

“I-I’m in the city,” she replied, her words coming out slightly uneven despite her attempt to stay calm.

A brief pause.

Then-

“Really?” he said, the irony in his voice clear, almost cutting. “I asked you where exactly are you in this moment.”

Her breath caught.

<Arguments 2

The dominance in his tone, cold and precise, made her pulse quicken in a way she did not fully understand, her body reacting before her mind could catch up.

“I’m… I’m near-” she hesitated for a second, then forced herself to continue, giving him the exact location.

Silence followed for a fraction of a second.

And then-

“Stay there.”

The words were sharp.

Chilling.

Final.

Before she could respond-

The call ended.

Claim

Iva lowered the phone slowly, staring at the screen as if it might explain what had just happened, but it remained blank, offering nothing but her own reflection.

“What…?” she whispered, confusion settling in.

She stepped outside the shop, her eyes scanning the street instinctively, her heart still beating faster than

it should.

Stay there?

Why?

What was going on?

She barely had time to process the questions.

Because only a few minutes later-

A dark car screeched to a stop in front of her, the sound loud and abrupt enough to draw attention, tires scraping against the pavement as it halted with controlled aggression.

Iva flinched slightly, her body tensing as the tinted window rolled down slowly.

And then she saw him.

Caleb.

But not the Caleb she remembered.

Not the one from that night.

His expression was hard.

Tight.

Arguments 2

Barely contained fury burned in his eyes, sharp and dangerous, as if something inside him was on the verge of breaking free.

Her breath caught.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

The air between them felt charged, heavy with everything that had been left unsaid.

Then, through clenched teeth, his voice cut through the silence.

“Get in.”

Claim

The drive was silent.

Not the calm kind of silence that brought peace, but the heavy, suffocating kind that pressed against the chest and made every breath feel deliberate, every second stretched too long.

Caleb’s hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, his knuckles pale from the force, his jaw locked as his eyes stayed fixed on the road ahead, sharp and unblinking, as if any distraction might make him snap completely.

Tension rolled off him in waves.

Raw.

Uncontained.
