His Fiance-2
The call ended.
Silence returned.
But not for long.
Because Caleb was already moving.
Fast.
Decisive.
He stepped into the shower without hesitation, the cold water hitting his skin as his mind raced ahead, already building plans, scenarios, strategies, calculating outcomes and risks with practiced precision.
“Great…” he muttered under his breath, frustration slipping through as he ran a hand over his face. “This is the last thing we needed…”
Especially now.
Chaos stirred immediately.
Restless.
Focused on something else entirely.
“What about our mate?”
The question came sharp.
Demanding.
Caleb exhaled slowly, his jaw tightening for a brief second before he answered.
“We have James,” he said firmly. “He’ll keep an eye on her until we are back.”
A pause.
Then, colder-
“And he’ll keep her protected from any pests.”
It wasn’t perfect.
It wasn’t enough.
But for now-
It would have to do.
Because duty called.
And Caleb-

The rest of the morning passed in a blur of routine and motion, and a threw herself into it with a kind of quiet determination, as if keeping her hands busy could silence the noise inside her mind, as if the simple, repetitive rhythm of washing dishes, stacking plates, wiping surfaces, and moving from one task to another could ground her in something real and stable.
Water ran endlessly over her hands.
Warm.
Soapy.
Constant.
And she focused on it.
On the physical sensation.
On the work.
Because it was easier than thinking.
Easier than replaying the night.
Easier than feeling.
“Iva,” Sergio’s voice cut through the background noise sometime later.
She turned quickly, blinking as she was pulled out of her thoughts.
“Yes?”
“Come to my office for a moment.”
She nodded immediately, drying her hands on a cloth before making her way toward the small back office, her posture respectful, her expression calm.
Sergio handed her an envelope without much ceremony.
“Your weekly pay.”
Iva’s eyes softened instantly, a small but genuine smile appearing on her lips as she took it carefully, almost reverently.
“Thank you,” she said sincerely.
It wasn’t much.
She knew that.
But to her-
It meant everything.

Each bill was a step forward.
A breath of relief.
A piece of independence.
“Thank you, really,” she added quietly.
Sergio gave a short nod, already moving on, but she didn’t mind.
She slipped out of the office and headed toward her locker, opening it and placing the envelope safely inside, her fingers lingering on it for just a second longer before she pulled back.
Then-
She remembered.
Her phone.
Since the new policy had been enforced as no mobiles during working hours, she hadn’t checked it all morning.
She reached for it, unlocking the screen quickly-
And froze.
A message.
From Caleb.
Her heart jumped instantly, beating hard against her chest as her breath caught slightly, her fingers tightening around the phone before she opened it.
And read.
Claum
I will be gone for several days… not sure when I am coming back… we have a military situation at one of the borders that requires my attention. Take care of yourself and rely on James… if you need anything just ask him. We will talk more when I am coming back… C.
Her eyes moved over the words again.
Slower this time.
And something in her chest tightened.
“Military…?” she whispered under her breath.
“Border…”
Her heart skipped.
Then raced.
“Mate is in a danger zone,” Avalon’s voice came immediately, tense, alert.
Iva swallowed, her grip tightening slightly on the phone.

“Yes…” she replied internally, her voice quieter now. “He is…”
And suddenly-
Everything else faded.
The kitchen.
The noise.
The work.
None of it mattered.
Because now-
Her thoughts were elsewhere.
With him.
For the rest of the day, she couldn’t find her balance again.
Her hands moved.
Her body worked.
But her mind-
It was restless.
Unsettled.
Charms
Every now and then, her chest would tighten without warning, a strange unease creeping in, something instinctive, something tied to the bond, something she couldn’t fully explain but couldn’t ignore either.
By the time her shift ended, exhaustion weighed heavily on her again, both physical and emotional, her head aching slightly as she made her way back to the penthouse.
The elevator ride felt longer than usual.
Quieter,
And when she finally stepped inside-
The silence hit her.
Hard.
The space felt… too big.
Too empty.
Her gaze moved slowly across the living room, taking in the absence, the stillness, the lack of that had once filled it so intensely.
“He’s gone…” she murmured softly.

And for some reason-
It felt heavier this time.
She exhaled slowly, pushing the feeling aside as she moved toward her room.
“I just need a shower…” she whispered to herself.
Something simple.
Something grounding.
But just as she reached the hallway-
The doorbell rang.
Iva froze.
Her brows pulled together slightly.
“Who could that be…?” she murmured, her tone cautious now.
Her first thought came quickly.
“Maybe James…”
Still, she didn’t rush.
She approached the door carefully, her steps quiet, her şenses alert as she reached for the handle and opened it slowly..
And then-
She blinked.
Confused.
Because standing in front of her was a woman.
A she-wolf.
