Emotional Reunion II

The room fell into a heavy, almost surreal silence after Iva’s words.

I am The Messenger.

They lingered in the air like something sacred.

Like something impossible.

Lori didn’t move.

Didn’t blink.

She just sat there, staring at Iva as if seeing her for the first time all over again, her lips slightly parted, her eyes wide with disbelief and something close to awe.

“…Wow,” she finally breathed out.

It wasn’t loud.

It wasn’t dramatic.

But it carried everything.

Shock.

Wonder.

Disbelief.

Iva let out a small, shaky breath, her shoulders lowering slightly as if releasing a weight now that the truth was out, now that she didn’t have to hide anymore-at least not from Lori.

“There’s more,” she added quietly.

And Lori nodded immediately, still staring at her, still trying to process.

So Iva continued.

She told her everything.

How she ran.

How she crossed the pack borders with nothing but fear and determination pushing her forward, her heart breaking as she accepted Nick’s rejection, forcing herself not to look back, not to hope, not to wait.

How the nights were cold.

Lonely.

Unforgiving.

How she struggled to survive in the city, working the small job, barely earning enough, always looking over

her shoulder, always afraid someone would find her and drag her back.

And how she waited,

Day after day.

Until the academy opened.

“…I still can’t believe you got accepted,” Lori said after a moment, shaking her head slightly, her voice filled with disbelief and happiness.

Iva gave a faint, tired smile.

“That’s thanks to you,” she said softly. “You were the one who kept pushing me… telling me I could do more… be more… to have options.”

Lori blinked, caught off guard by that, a light blush creeping onto her cheeks as she looked away for a

second.

“Well… yeah… I mean…” she mumbled awkwardly.

But then-

Her expression shifted.

Her brows furrowed slightly.

And her gaze dropped.

To Iva’s neck.

Her eyes narrowed.

“…You still didn’t answer my main question,” Lori said slowly, her tone changing.

Iva stilled.

“I see the mark,” Lori continued, pointing slightly. “So… who is be?”

The room felt heavier again.

Iva inhaled slowly.

Deeply.

Preparing herself.

Because this part-

Still hurt… was still too raw, too recent.

She lifted her gaze back to Lori, her voice quieter now, more fragile as she began.

“I met him in the city…”

And then-

She told her everything.

How Caleb appeared in her life.

How intense he was.

How overwhelming.

How the bond between them ignited so fast, so strong, pulling her in before she could even understand what was happening.

How he marked her.

How she felt wanted.

Claimed.

For the first time-

Chosen.

Her voice trembled slightly as she continued, her fingers curling together in her lap.

“And then…” she whispered.

Lori leaned in slightly.

“And then his fiancée showed up,” Iva finished, her voice breaking just a little.

Silence.

Thick.

Heavy.

“I felt it…” she added softly. “The betrayal… through the bond…”

Her eyes dropped.

“So I left when he was away.”

Lori’s mouth fell open.

Completely.

For a second-

She just stared at her.

And then-

Smack.

A light slap landed on Iva’s arm.

“You silly girl!” Lori exclaimed, her voice rising instantly, a mix of shock and frustration bursting out of her.

“Why on earth would you run away?!”-

Iva blinked, startled.

“I would have cornered him!” Lori continued, her hands moving animatedly now. “Demanded answers! Made him explain everything!”

Her eyes flashed.

“Stop being a chicken, Iva! You are a wolf!” she added sharply. “You are the freaking Goddess Messenger!”

Her voice echoed slightly in the small room.

“So why run away?!”

Iva flinched slightly, her gaze dropping again, her shoulders curling inward just a little as the words hit deeper than intended.

“Because…” she whispered.

Lori stilled.

Iva’s voice trembled now.

“…because, partly, of what happened with Nick.”

Silence fell again.

Heavy.

Painful.

“I couldn’t face it again,” she admitted softly, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. “Another rejection… face to face heavy words…”

Her voice cracked.

“Call me a coward… but I feel like my heart can’t take it…”

Her hand moved instinctively to her chest.

“I feel like it would end me…”

Her breathing faltered.

“Another bond… broken…”

Lori frowned deeply, her expression tightening as she listened.

“That makes no sense,” she said, her tone softer now, but still firm. “If you leave the bond intact, you will feel everything anyway… every time he betrays you, every time something happens- It would be

continuous torture…”

She leaned closer.

“Iva… since when are you so masochistic?”

The words stung.

The tension between them rose again.

Sharp.

Raw.

“I’m not ” Iva started, her voice breaking as tears finally spilled over.

“Then what are you doing?! Not everyone is Nick… maybe she was his fiancée from before… you didn’t even speak with him to know his side of the story… you just took off!” Lori pressed.

“I just-I can’t-”

Claim

“Why?! Stop being a child!!! Fight for him if you love him… plus the Moon Goddess paired you for a reason… “Lori demanded.
