The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1236

Aloys bowed his head with respect, though his eyes turned cold where Allanson couldn’t see. It looked like he’d have to make sure Franco and Charlotte never set foot on the Isle of Veil again.

Inside the car, Charlotte pulled her jacket tighter and curled up against Anthony, absentmindedly rolling the carnelian bracelet between her fingers.

“How’s it look?” Anthony asked, his chin resting on her shoulder. He slid an arm around her waist, the corners of his mouth lifting as he felt the softness there. She really had put on some weight since being with him, and he liked it.

Charlotte kept her eyes on the bracelet, her delicate face looking a little frosty. “There isn’t any testing equipment on the Isle of Veil. The only machine that works is with Dr. David. We’ll have to wait until he runs the tests.”

That machine was the latest, one-of-a-kind model. It could analyze everything about the agent, right down to the tiniest detail.

Anthony’s gaze dropped to the bracelet. He nodded, his voice low and a little rough. “Don’t stress. We’ll have Dr. David check it when we get back. No matter what comes up, we’ll handle it together.”

Charlotte carefully slipped the bracelet back into her bag. She looked up at Anthony, hooking her finger under his chin. After a quiet moment, she leaned in and brushed her warm breath against his cool lips. She smiled, her voice soft. “Alright.”

Anthony breathed in her scent, his heart thudding a little faster. His hand tightened around her waist as he tried to pull her closer, wanting to deepen the kiss.

But before he could, Charlotte pressed her fingers against his chest and gently pulled away, a playful smile on her lips. “Anthony, are you trying to end up taking a cold shower tonight?”

And she’d meant to tell Anthony about the baby as soon as she had the bracelet. Now, though…

She glanced out the window and noticed a handsome man kneeling on the sidewalk, helping his little boy fix his jacket. The kid was bouncing up and down, chatting away a mile a minute. The man just smiled, then picked him up, and the two of them walked off together, laughing.

The whole scene felt so warm and full of love.

After a while, Charlotte tore her eyes away and looked at Anthony, her feelings tumbling around inside her. If he knew about the baby, would he be just as happy?

“What are you thinking about?” Anthony asked, noticing her staring at him. He took her hand and pressed a kiss to her fingers, his voice low and a bit raspy. “If you’re not feeling well, don’t go tempting me on purpose, alright?”
