The Moment I Stepped Into His World as the Fake Girlfriend, I Became the Real Prize novel Chapter 15

Xavier's arrogant face was flushed red, and a thin layer of cold sweat beaded on his forehead. He barely managed to stop at the doorway, leaning against the doorframe as if desperately enduring some kind of intense pain.

“Xavier, you don't look well. Do you need a doctor?”

Noticing his strange state, Sterling asked with concern.

Xavier waved his hand, his voice raspy. “No need. I’m fine.”

He narrowed his eyes, staring off into the short distance at the girl who had just ruthlessly kicked him a moment ago, now throwing herself into his younger brother's arms. His eyes darkened ominously.

“Weren't you leaving to take care of something? Why did you suddenly come back, and you scared Elena.”

Sterling continued probing, trying not to let Xavier see any flaws in their act, and even managed to wrap his arms around Elena to hug her back.

If it were any other man seeing another guy walk out of his girlfriend’s room, he would have instantly been suspicious, or even exploded in anger.

But Sterling firmly believed this was just an accident.

After all, for the past six months, his brother had been like a completely different person. There were no women around him anymore; all he cared about was hunting down the ex who dumped him!

Moreover, his brother had no idea Elena was his hired girlfriend. Even out of basic respect for him, Xavier would know his boundaries and wouldn't try anything sleazy.

“I got a call halfway, the issue was handled, so I came back.”

Xavier gave a casual excuse, brushing it off. “I had a few drinks and was feeling dizzy. I forgot you brought a girlfriend home and accidentally walked into the wrong room.”

“Yeah, I knew it. You didn't do it on purpose.”

Sterling didn't suspect a thing. Instead, he lowered his head, playing the part of a lovestruck fool perfectly. “Elena, you heard him. Xavier didn't mean it. Let’s forgive him this time, okay?”

Elena felt a bit helpless. The young master was acting like a total idiot, but she obediently nodded. “Okay, but I want Mr. Hawthorne to promise it won't happen again!”

The enthusiastic young actor lightly patted her shoulder a few times and looked back at his brother. “Xavier, there won't be a next time, right?”

Xavier slowly clenched his fists, his gaze fixed on the girl with her back to him, and stayed silent for a moment.

“I was backing up too fast earlier, hit a lamppost, and bumped my teeth on the steering wheel.”

Fortunately, between his ex-girlfriend and his brother, Xavier favored the latter.

Elena quietly breathed a sigh of relief, chiding herself for overthinking.

To Xavier, his inability to let her go wasn't due to deep affection, but his bruised ego and desire for conquest.

As the ultimate prize of his bet, she had vanished right when he was about to win. How could he accept that?

Of course, no matter how bitter he was, she was just a woman, nowhere near as important as his own brother.

In other words, as long as she remained Sterling’s girlfriend, she was safe!

“Xavier, with your driving skills, making such a rookie mistake? I should really record this and send it to the group chat for Alistair and Tristan to laugh at.”
