Anyone with eyes could see that Elena wasn't just loudly staking her claim; she was blatantly provoking Lydia.
"I really didn't expect Sterling's girlfriend to be someone other than the school belle!"
"Can you blame him? She rejected him so many times, it's totally normal for him to finally give up!"
"Is this his first real relationship? She's stunning. She completely outshines Lydia. I'd pick her too!"
The crowd eagerly fueled the drama, their eyes darting back to Lydia to see how she'd react.
Standing perfectly still, Lydia met Elena's gaze for a fleeting second before calmly looking away.
She completely ignored Elena's provocation, brushing it off as if it were nothing.
"What the hell are you barking about? Lydia isn't just 'anyone'!"
Sasha, hot-tempered as always, viciously snapped back.
Then, turning her furious glare back to the silent young man, she demanded answers. "Sterling, say something! Is she really your girlfriend?"
"If she is, then what about Lydia? Where does that leave her!"
Hearing this, Lydia lowered her eyes and tugged at her friend's sleeve. "Sasha, let it go. We need to get back to class."
"Lydia, can you please show some backbone? This random woman who popped out of nowhere is openly insulting you. Can't you hear it?"
Sasha's eyes widened in disbelief. Seeing her friend's passive, unbothered attitude only fueled her rage. "You might be able to tolerate this, but I can't. Sterling owes you an explanation!"
The people outside the car couldn't see what was happening inside, completely unaware that Sterling's hands were balled into tight fists as he desperately tried to suppress his warring emotions.
True, he was trying to trust Elena, but since it was his first time testing the girl he loved, he couldn't help but feel a gnawing sense of guilt and nerves.
Plus... he never expected Elena to be so brutal, going straight for the jugular the moment she opened her mouth.
And yet, Lydia showed no reaction. She clearly didn't care at all.
If she didn't care that he had a new girlfriend, why would she ever feel jealous?
