The Moment I Stepped Into His World as the Fake Girlfriend, I Became the Real Prize novel Chapter 48

Elena was speechless.

Taking a deep breath, she forced a polite smile. "Sterling, if I recall correctly, you confessed to her ninety-nine times before I ever showed up. Did you succeed even once?"

Sterling was silent.

Faced with her razor-sharp sarcasm, he truly had absolutely nothing to say in his defense.

Not wanting him to genuinely turn his anger on her, Elena's expression turned serious. "Sterling, matters of the heart are unpredictable. I just think that if my intuition is right, and the school belle really cares about you... she won't let you slip away."

"On the flip side, if I'm wrong and she wasn't jealous, if she's still completely indifferent to you, then I think... you might want to try letting go instead of forcing something that isn't there, you know?"

Sterling fell silent, his dark lashes lowering to hide the chaotic storm of emotions in his eyes.

But a second later, the girl's tone shifted, teasingly prodding at his limits. "Unless... you plan on locking her up and forcing her to be yours?"

Instantly, a rush of heat surged into the young man's face, and he snapped at her. "What kind of nonsense is that? I would never do something like that!"

He paused, adding quickly, "Your mind is completely twisted!"

"Alright, alright, my mind is twisted. So please, hurry up and go after her to confirm how she actually feels!"

Elena picked at her food casually, urging him to get moving.

"It'd be a shame if you laid all this groundwork for her, only to realize it was pointless. Wouldn't want all that money going to waste, right?"

Lydia's social standing was too low. Sterling had only paid Elena to act as the perfect, terrible contrast so his family would eventually accept the girl he truly loved.

At first, she had assumed that he and Lydia had been dating for ages.

She never would have guessed that the girl hadn't agreed to a single one of his confessions!

Yet, it also proved just how fiercely he cared for her, planning so far ahead to ensure her future happiness. It was a devotion few men ever showed.

"I'm the one spending the money, and you're the one making it. What are you complaining about?"

Sterling shot back defensively, but he took her advice, standing up to chase after Lydia.
