The Officer's Runaway Wife & Secret Son novel Chapter 140

"Exactly," Owen blew a smoke ring. "Clara acts all tough and loud, but the truth is she can't survive without you. Just give her the cold shoulder this time. She won't be able to handle it and will come back begging to make up."

The surrounding friends chimed in, "Or just cut off her supplementary credit cards. Without money, she can't go anywhere. She'll behave soon enough."

None of them knew Clara had moved out, let alone that she had suffered a miscarriage.

In Rhys's social circle, Clara was just the little shadow that trailed behind him.

"Hey, speaking of which, I passed by Rail Line Studio the other day. I almost didn't recognize Clara."

Shawn pulled up a photo he had sneakily taken earlier and tossed his phone onto the table.

The group crowded around to look.

Clara was wearing a wedding dress, held in the arms of a pretty boy, smiling so radiantly it was blinding. It was a liveliness Rhys hadn't seen in her for a long time.

Someone tutted. "Clara used to be so well-behaved when she was chasing you. How come she's playing these thrilling games now?"

Rhys said, "No, that's just her friend."

"What friend? Rhys, you'd better wake up. Don't let her play you for a fool without you even noticing."

Rhys explained, "He's into men."

Shawn disagreed. "Even if he's into aliens, it doesn't matter—the gender is right there. If you held another girl like that, wouldn't Clara tear the roof off?"

Rhys furrowed his brows.

He suddenly remembered how he felt when he saw them hugging before he knew Simon's sexual orientation.

He had been genuinely angry, almost ready to hit someone.

What about Clara?

That time at the Johnson family home, when she saw him hugging Margot... how did she feel?

Owen added, "I think she's just doing it to piss you off. If it were Margot, she'd never do something so outrageous. Margot is so respectable and demure."

"True," another friend chimed in. "Margot hasn't blushed or raised her voice since we were kids. Much easier to deal with than Clara."

"If you ask me, you need a virtuous wife. Clara is beautiful, but she's too much drama..."

*Bang!*
