The elevator descended.

Rhys stared at his reflection in the elevator doors, his heartbeat dangerously erratic.

He hadn't dared to look back.

Clara's final look had filled him with a cold sense of panic.

The doors slid open. He stared blankly at the underground parking garage for a moment before taking a step. Behind him, the sound of dress shoes hitting the concrete echoed.

"Mr. Huntington, a moment, please."

Rhys turned.

Daniel had followed him out of the other elevator.

"Is there something else, Mr. Reed?"

Rhys checked his watch, his tone unfriendly. "If you're here to persuade me to sign, save your breath. I've made myself very clear. I won't sign."

"It's not about the signature."

Daniel stopped in front of him, taking out his phone and pulling up an image.

"Back there, Ms. Bridges had some things she didn't plan to say, things she feels are beneath her. But as her attorney, and for the sake of my client's interests, I feel it is necessary for you to see this."

"See what?"

The phone screen was thrust in front of his face.

"These are text messages Ms. Bridges received the other night."

Rhys frowned, his gaze landing on the screen.

The screenshot was simple. Just three messages.

[Heard you lost the baby. You didn't do it on purpose, did you?]

[Thought that would be enough to guilt-trip a husband who doesn't love you into staying? Clara, you really are pathetic.]

"You really are pathetic."

Even through the screen, the malice was palpable.

He took Daniel's phone, scrolling left and right to confirm there was no other context.

"...Who sent this?"

Daniel replied calmly, "For someone with your resources, tracing a virtual number to a real IP address shouldn't be difficult."

Rhys fell silent.
