The Officer's Runaway Wife & Secret Son novel Chapter 148

Clara wasn't surprised.

In his heart, Margot could do no wrong.

"File the lawsuit with the court. The firm can handle the rest."

"You aren't going to wait for him to verify it?"

"No need." Clara touched her flat abdomen gently. "Whether he believes it or not doesn't change the outcome."

She knew Rhys too well.

Even if only to prove Margot's innocence, he would definitely investigate that number.

And when he discovered that the sister he saw as pure, flawless, and too fragile to care for herself was actually a venomous snake... what kind of expression would he have?

Regret? Agony?

Clara imagined the scene and realized she felt absolutely no satisfaction.

Besides, his solution would likely be nothing more than forcing Margot to apologize to her.

She didn't need that kind of meaningless gesture.

"Mr. Reed, thank you for your trouble today." She nodded at Daniel. "I'm going to head out. Simon is waiting for me downstairs."

As she reached the door, Daniel called out to her. "Ms. Bridges."

"Yes?"

"If you want revenge for the child, you could wait for him to contact us. I'm confident he would make significant concessions."

Clara smiled faintly and pushed the door open.

"There's no point. Some mistakes can't be fixed."

"Letting him live a lifetime with that regret and the pain of being deceived... that is the greatest punishment for him."

...

At the Johnson Manor.

Rhys's car sat in the courtyard, the engine still running.

He sat inside for over ten minutes, smoking a cigarette down to the filter.

He stared at the second-floor window. Only when his phone rang again did he finally step out.

Veronica West saw him enter and immediately started scolding. "What took you so long! The doctor already left!"

Rhys asked, "Where is Margot?"

Rhys didn't answer her question.

He took out his phone, pulled up the screenshot, and held it in front of her face.

"If you're so sick, how do you have the energy to send texts like this?"

Margot's eyes flickered. "What texts? I can't see clearly."

"Look closer then."

Rhys moved the phone nearer. "Look familiar?"

Margot scanned it, her face draining of what little color it had.

She shook her head. "Who sent these?"

"I want to know that too," Rhys said, retracting the phone. "So I've already asked a colleague to trace it."

The person in front of him gripped the blanket tighter.

Rhys looked down at her. "Margot, you aren't clever enough."

"Why would you send something like this to Clara?"
