The Officer's Runaway Wife & Secret Son novel Chapter 225

The typhoon reached its peak in the latter half of the night.

Clara was already sleeping lightly when a crack of thunder exploded right over the roof. She woke with a start, her heart hammering against her ribs.

Immediately following the scare, her belly went tight and hard, accompanied by a dull, dragging pain.

She let out a muffled groan, gripping the sheets as cold sweat broke out on her forehead.

This pain was different from the usual fetal movement. It came with a distinct sensation of downward pressure, wave after tightening wave.

Was she going into labor? But it was only eight months.

In her daze, she felt like she was back in that underground garage at the Harborview Hotel.

Fear outpaced the pain. She struggled to sit up.

"Mom..."

Before she could get the sound out, her bedroom door was shoved open.

Clara's mom had also been woken by the thunder. Feeling uneasy, she had come to check on her daughter.

One look at Clara's face, and the older woman turned paler than Clara.

"Clara! What is it? Does your stomach hurt?!"

Her scream woke the entire house.

Simon rushed in without even putting on slippers. Seeing Clara clutching her belly in pain, he panicked completely.

"What's happening? Is she birthing?" He fumbled frantically for his pockets, realizing too late he was in pajamas. "Phone! Where's my phone?!"

"Here! I have it!" Alex ran in, equally terrified. "The due date is a month away! Is it premature labor?"

Clara's dad was frantic too. "Call 911... Can an ambulance even get here in this typhoon?"

The room was a scene of chaos.

She had heard so many horror stories about premature births; the fear of the unknown was paralyzing. Clara was already in pain, and amplified by the terrified atmosphere of "premature labor," she began to tremble uncontrollably.

"Everyone, calm down."

Noah reacted the fastest.

He walked to the bedside without hesitation, placing one hand on Clara's abdomen and the other on her wrist to check her pulse.

"Simon, go get a glass of warm water. Mrs. Bridges, close the curtains; don't let the lightning flash in her eyes."
