The next day, the top floor of the hotel was quiet.

Clara wasn't destined to sleep in.

Mostly because Felix woke up early. He lay on his stomach at the head of the bed, staring at her with wide eyes. He didn't speak, just stared until Clara felt guilty enough that she couldn't bear to lie there for another second.

The party had gone late last night. There was still no movement from Simon's room by ten o'clock. Clara sent him a text, but got no reply; he was likely still nursing a hangover.

As for the newlyweds, Emily and Daniel, the "Do Not Disturb" light was on, and Clara had no intention of being a nuisance.

"Let's go." Noah stood at the suite door, holding Felix with one arm. "Any later and the line for the sky tram to the peak will be miles long."

Clara grabbed her sunglasses from the console table. "Yeah, let's forget about Simon. Let him sleep."

The three of them went downstairs. The lobby was bustling.

Because of the holiday weekend, the hotel was fully booked, crowded with tourists dragging suitcases. Noah told Clara to sit with the child in the lounge area while he went to get the car from the valet.

Felix was dressed exceptionally cool today. He wore a smoky gray hoodie set with a dark blue denim vest over it, and his baseball cap was pulled down low.

"Mom, the perfume smell here is too strong. It makes me want to sneeze."

"We'll leave as soon as Daddy Noah brings the car around."

Clara pulled his mask up a bit and adjusted the straps behind his ears.

As she looked down, a pair of silver high heels stopped in the center of the floor, right in her line of sight.

Clara followed the shoes upward.

A caramel-colored trench coat cinched at the waist, a Himalayan Birkin bag in hand, and decorative rings on the index and ring fingers.

Further up was a face with exquisite makeup, hair curled over the shoulders, and pearl studs in the earlobes.

Clara paused, momentarily thinking she was looking at a past version of herself.
