The Officer's Runaway Wife & Secret Son novel Chapter 367

Clara felt a wave of dizziness.

How far was he going to push her before he was satisfied?

"Let go, Rhys."

He didn't listen.

"I said, let go!"

Clara shoved at his head, not holding back. Her nails scraped a red line across his cheek. "Look at yourself! You're a disgrace to your father!"

The words must have hit their mark. The man's body stiffened slightly, and his arms loosened. Without support, he slumped to the side.

Instinctively, Clara reached out, managing to catch his shoulder just before his head hit the floor.

"Nurse!" she yelled toward the door.

Mia heard her and rushed to the nurses' station. A doctor and several nurses swarmed in and lifted him back onto the bed.

The observation room descended into chaos. The monitor beeped erratically, and Clara was pushed into a corner.

She looked down and saw several bloodstains on her coat.

For a moment, it felt as if they were merging with the blood she had lost before. The metallic scent made her vision go dark.

"Family should wait outside!"

A nurse drew the curtain, hiding the figure on the bed, who, even while unconscious, still had his brow tightly furrowed.

Clara turned numbly and walked out of the observation room.

The air in the lobby was cool, and it sent a shiver through her.

Mia followed her out, her eyes red. She held out a pack of wet wipes. "Clara, here, wipe your hands."

Clara stared blankly for a moment, not taking them.

"Clara," Mia said, her heart aching for the two of them. "I know you hate him, but…"

"Don't speak for him. This was his choice. I'm going to wash my hands."

She turned and walked away, locking herself in a bathroom stall and leaning against the door to steady her breathing.

She could hear the nurses talking outside.

"That patient in the observation room is so uncooperative."

"He's handsome, but he acts like a child. Is he afraid of needles?"

"Who knows? Probably has some mental issues."

-

The sound of running water filled the air.

Clara stood at the sink, pumping a large dollop of soap into her hands and scrubbing them vigorously.

She rinsed, then pumped more soap, and scrubbed again.

Her palm still tingled from the slap.

Margot had said their lives were intertwined. Rhys had said Felix was all he had left. Even Mia was defending him.

But what about her?

Who was asking about her?

Clara splashed a handful of cold water on her face, which helped clear her head a little.

She hadn't taken more than two steps when she heard a nurse's panicked shout from behind her. "Hey! Why are you down here again? Get back in bed!"
