The Officer's Runaway Wife & Secret Son novel Chapter 85

By the time they both finished washing up and lay in bed, it was already 2:00 AM.

Rhys pulled Clara into his arms as soon as he got into bed.

"Asleep?"

"No."

"I had my assistant change the flight tickets to Sunbay City for the day after tomorrow," Rhys said, his hand unconsciously stroking her side. "We'll take the morning flight to get there earlier."

"Okay."

"This time we'll stay at a hotel. I booked that overwater bungalow you said you wanted to stay in years ago."

He continued, "I booked it for a week. No disturbances. We can just rest."

Clara searched her memory for a long time before recalling it was from the first year of their marriage.

She had stumbled upon it online and loved it immediately. The ocean outside floor-to-ceiling windows, fish swimming beneath the floor—it was ridiculously romantic.

The room was booked, the itinerary planned out over a dozen pages; she had even imagined the exact angles for their kisses.

On the day of departure, Rhys went to the hospital for Margot, leaving her alone at the airport.

The result was her dragging two huge suitcases back home by herself. Two years had passed, and she no longer had that 'must-go' feeling.

Now, he finally remembered to make amends.

Clara nodded. "Whatever you have planned for the week is fine with me."

Rhys kissed her ear. "I'll turn off my phone this time. I won't take calls from anyone."

Clara pulled the duvet up, covering her ears. He understood everything. He knew what she minded, knew what she wanted, and knew what would make her happy. He just hadn't done it.

Now that he was willing, it was likely just a way to patch over the cracks of the past few days.

"Go to sleep, Rhys."
