Rhys's hand paused for a fraction of a second before he nonchalantly played a card. "Looks like I need to let you win more, just to balance things out."

Clara saw the card he played and smiled brilliantly. "I win again."

She immediately turned and used her winnings to buy gifts for the children in the house. Wendy watched from the side, feeling a chill run down her spine.

On the day after Christmas, Rhys took Clara to visit her parents, and by evening, they returned to Riverside Court to pack.

Clara didn't have much to pack; she tossed things into a carry-on and was done. Rhys, however, had spread out a large suitcase and was packing diving gear.

"Clara, do you want the pink fins?"

Rhys held two pairs of fins, turning to look at Clara, who was sitting on the sofa playing a puzzle game on her phone. "Or change to these white ones? The pink ones look a bit old."

Clara looked up, her gaze landing on his hands.

The pink fins were bought three years ago. Back then, she had just learned to dive and excitedly insisted on buying a full set of pink gear, even making him stick their initials on everything.

"Whatever," Clara withdrew her gaze. "As long as they work."

Rhys frowned, unsatisfied with the perfunctory answer. He put down the fins, walked over to sit beside her, took the phone from her hand, and placed it face down on the coffee table.

"What's wrong? You seem listless."

"Nothing, just a bit tired."

"Then stop playing on your phone. Come see what else needs to be packed."

Rhys pulled her up and walked to the pile of equipment. "Didn't you always say you wanted to go skydiving? I've arranged it for this trip too."

Clara looked at the colorful gear, her eyes losing focus for a moment.

When she was chasing Rhys the hardest, she heard that the police academy's physical training included high-altitude projects. To have a common topic with him, she ran to a club and signed up for skydiving lessons.
