What the hell did I do to deserve this? I was being really good at the other base. I was behaving myself, I never got in trouble.
The whole time I was there, I never got written up for anything. So I don’t understand why I just suddenly got the order to move out.
As I looked around I saw that there were different units wearing different clothing.
Some were wearing the typical army green and camouflage clothing but others were just wearing black. Like at my old base.
Justin was wearing the black uniform.
There’s definitely something strange about this outfit. And I’m not sure I’m going to like it.
We got to the main office building at the front of the base and we had to get through several lines of security before we made it to the Captain’s office and we had to stand outside waiting for him after his receptionist had told him that we had arrived.
I started looking at all the pictures on the walls and they were of all the soldiers that had come through this base with very high distinctions. The soldiers that they were most proud of.
I saw Justin’s picture on the wall and I looked at him before I looked back at the plaque that was under his name.
For going above and beyond to protect and save his unit.
So, if he’s such a hero then why the hell is he still only a private? That didn’t make any sense to me.
Once the buzzer went off we were told to go into the Captain’s office and when we walked in I closed the door behind us and Justin saluted the Captain but I just looked at them strangely.
“Didn’t you salute at your last base?” The Captain asked.
“Not really.” I said.
“Leigh.” I said.
“Take Private Leigh to the mess hall for lunch and then you can start by taking her on your usual daily routine.” Captain Stevens said.
So Justin saluted him and I followed suit by saluting him as well and we left the office.
As soon as we got outside, Justin could see how freaked out I was.
“Don’t worry. He’s not always that intense. Plus, we don’t see him a whole lot.” Justin said.
“How much does everyone know about me?” I asked.
There goes my fresh start. Those bastards told them everything. How I grew up at that base without parents or anything. This was bullshit.
