But I guess, I have had worse. They used to put me through hell week at the old base. They would do that to me every couple of months where we would only get a couple of hours of sleep that whole week.
It’s meant to prepare us for when we are out on missions and we may not sleep much at all for days on end.
I know that they weren’t trying to torture us. They just needed to make sure that we were able to protect ourselves and do our jobs. That’s all it was.
I have heard a mention of hell week around here as well, but I didn’t know when that was going to be happening. I didn’t really care right now.
As soon as we got something to eat, Ben came and sat next to me at the end of the table and he was talking to me and we were getting along really well while Eric and Jesse were getting to know the other Hunters. But the girls were still giving me weird looks.
I didn’t like that they really thought I was a threat. I was sent here to do a job and it’s not my fault if Ben likes me more than them.
Maybe it’s because I don’t try as hard as them.
“Alright guys. Let’s go.” Justin said, walking over to our table.
So I stood up with Ben, Eric and Jesse and we all followed him out of the mess hall.
He took us back to the obstacle course and he told us what we needed to do. The whole course and back again in 12 minutes.
I was dreading this. I knew he was going to make me do this again, but I was really dreading it.
I felt Ben’s hand brush against mine and I looked over at him. He had a look on his face like he was telling me that it was going to be alright.
I guess he could see the dread on my face or something. I don’t really know. But for some reason, I just knew that if he was here with me then I would be alright. I’d get through this.
It was strange. I’ve never trusted anyone so quickly before. I’ve never had a reason to. I’m usually just left alone.
I’ve made friends and stuff like that but I’ve never even let them get too close or anything like that.
“You’re fucking tough for a teenage girl.” He said.
“I’ve had plenty of practice.” I said.
“No. It’s more than that.” Eric said, eyeing me suspiciously.
“Man. She’s practically been raised on army bases. She’s been doing this shit since she could walk. It makes sense that she can keep up with us.” Ben said, coming to my defense which actually shocked me for a moment.
“Okay. Well, how about we don’t help her this time and see how good she is.” Eric suggested. He wasn’t being an asshole. It looked like he was making a game of it.
“Bring it on.” I said, dropping my water bottle and I went back to the starting line.
“I didn’t mean right now. We’re resting.” Eric complained and I started laughing. But Justin blew on the whistle and the guys had to hurry up and catch up to me as I had already started the course.
