LILLY’S POV
Justin had come to find me about that whole meeting that they just put me through. I was so glad that they didn’t think I had anything to do with it. But I was also wondering who they thought was the real culprit. I mean, the Captain told me himself that he didn’t believe it was me. I guess that was because I had grown up on the base.
That was something that finally worked in my favor.
But Justin again assured me that nothing was going to happen to me because the mission didn’t go the way we planned.
And apparently, our mission isn’t the only one that ended up like that. There have been a few missions that had failed because the wolf packs had been evacuated.
I was glad to hear that it wasn’t just me. I was starting to think I was cursed or something.
Two missions and they both failed. But I’m considered to be one of the best Hunters in this base.
At least, that’s what Justin thinks. And he’s seen a lot of Hunters come in and out of this place.
When Justin finally finished assuring me that everything was going to be alright I went to find Ben, Eric and Jesse who were in the training room and I started lifting weights with them.
It wasn’t too long before Izzy wandered into the weights room and strutted in front of the guys with her shirt tucked up to show off her whole stomach.
“Hey. I’m gonna do those free weights over there but I need a spotter. Can one of you guys help me?” She asked, leaning on one of the poles that they guys were near.
They all looked at each other a bit strangely before Eric stepped forward and said that he would.
So they walked over towards the weights and she laid down on the bench and started lifting them.
“Is everything alright?” Ben asked.
“Yeah. Just got a bit going on in my head.” I said.
“You know I’m a good listener.” Ben said.
“I know you are. It’s nothing like that. I think it just has more to do with the mission.” I said.
“Yeah. That was a disappointment. But I’m sure we’ll get them next time.” He said.
“I know we will. They can’t all hide from us.” Jesse said.
“That’s right. They can’t.” Ben said.
“I feel like I still need to prove myself to these people. I don’t know why. I mean, they know that I can handle it. They’ve seen me training. They’ve seen everything. I don’t know why I’ve been feeling so messed up lately. Things just don’t feel right.” I said. And Jesse and Ben looked at each other, just for a second, but I managed to see it.
“What do you mean you don’t feel right?” Ben asked.
“Almost like I don’t feel myself. It’s weird. I don’t even know how to explain it.” I said.
Pretty soon another girl came in asking for help and Jesse went off to help her. And I could see what they were doing. They hated that I was always training with these guys.
I don’t know why we didn’t train with the rest of them. Justin has just taken the four of us because we’re the newbies around here.
I’ve always assumed that was the reason. But Ben suggested we get out of the gym before anyone else came in needing help.
Suddenly these girls seemed to be damsels in distress that don’t know what the hell they’re doing when they are around Ben, Eric and Jesse.
So Ben and I left and we went to train in other fields for a while before it was time for dinner.
After dinner we headed back to the bunk house and I showered and got ready for bed.
We sat on our beds facing each other while we were talking and I was flipping through the only book that I owned.
I still felt really weird and I didn’t know why. I was starting to think that there was something really wrong with me. But I couldn’t go and see the doctor about it because I couldn’t explain the feeling.
“What do you mean? He’s my training.” I said, confused.
“He looks at you more than a trainer.”
“I don’t know why he would. I haven’t been here that long. Not long enough for him to think of me as a sister or anything.” I said.
“Lilly. I really do think that you are completely naive. I think he likes you more than a friend or a student.” Ben said.
“What? No way.” I said.
“Trust me on this one. He does.”
I stopped to think about it for a while and I guess he does look at me a little differently, but I had never really paid any attention to it before.
“Well, I don’t feel the same way about him.” I admitted.
“Good. Because I’m about to do something and I don’t want you to punch me when I do.” He said, leaning up on his elbows.
I looked over at Ben really confused but when he started moving in towards me, I knew what he was going to do.
My heart rate started going up and the butterflies in my stomach started going a little crazy.
This is what I’ve wanted Ben to do but I was also trying to follow the rules.
When Ben finally leaned all the way over, his lips met mine and it almost felt like there were fireworks going off in the background.
I wrapped my arms around his neck and he deepened the kiss.
Fuck the damn rules.
