Chapter 18

He would occasionally mark something down on the clipboard but then he would keep looking at me. And the other workers noticed it as well.

The guard that was parked outside my trailer all night, he eventually came inside and the manager bared his neck to the warrior. I guess he outranked the manager.

“Morgan. Can I see you for a minute?” My guard asked. So I stopped what I was doing and walked over to him at the door.

He grabbed my arm and pulled me outside and around the side of the building, where there weren’t any security cameras. That’s where I saw Alpha Logan waiting for me.

“What the fuck are you doing here? Are you stalking me?” I asked.

“Ace here has been mind linking me all day. I’ve been seeing what he’s been seeing.” Alpha Logan said.

“What’s that? Me working?” I asked.

“The manager. Why does he have such an interest in you?” Alpha Logan asked.

“I have no idea. Why don’t you go and ask him.” I said.

“Because he can’t know that we’re connected in any way.” Logan said, and that caused me to look at Ace. “He’s under Alpha command not to tell anyone that you’re my mate.” Logan continued.

“He’s been acting like a creep ever since I got here. I ignore him and I do the job that I was hired to do.” I said.

“Why do you want to work in a place like this?” He asked.

“What’s wrong with it? I’m not interacting with many of the pack members which is what I want. Because none of them show me any kind of respect. I need to help my mother with money because we are the lowest form of life in this pack. And in case you have forgotten, I’m still thinking about college.” I said.

“What colleges have accepted you?” He asked.

“I’m waiting to hear back about scholarships. Because we both know that is the only way I am getting the hell out of here.” I said.

“There’s a werewolf college not too far from here. I can get you a scholarship there. You can go to class and then come home to the pack afterwards. So, you’d still be living here.” He said,

“I know all about that college. I’ve been accepted. I didn’t say that I had chosen that school.” I said. And he looked at me with an indecipherable look on his face.

“Well, we’ll see about that. Ace, keep a close eye on that manager. If he lays a finger on her again, rip it off.” Alpha Logan demanded.

“Yes, sir.” Ace said.

I went back inside and continued with my work but the manager and all the workers were looking at me like they wanted some sort of explanation. Not that I was going to give them one.

We weren’t friends and I wasn’t planning on making any now. Not after what this pack has done to my family.

When I got home that afternoon I was pretty tired, so I laid down on the couch and turned the TV on. But I noticed that one of the cupboard doors wasn’t closed in the kitchen. They were always closed because we barely ever

opened them.

I got up and walked into the kitchen and I opened the cupboard to see that it was stocked full of food.

I went through all of the cupboards and the fridge and there wasn’t a free space anywhere. It was jam packed full of food.

“What the fuck…?”

I was so confused. Maybe Ace saw me going through the cupboards yesterday and told Alpha Logan about it. I don’t know. But there was a shit load of food in the house.

I was too excited to really stop and question it for much longer before I pulled a bunch of stuff out and I started making myself something to eat.

I sat at the table to eat it when I saw Ace in his wolf form, sitting outside.

“Alpha Logan.” I mind linked.

“Morgan?” He asked, confused.

“Did you stock my kitchen full of food?” I asked.

“I didn’t. Beta Levi did.” He said.

“Why?” I asked.

“Ace told me that you were starving. I didn’t know that it was that bad.” Alpha Logan admitted. “Why didn’t you tell me?” He asked.

“You know why. Thank you.” I said. And I cut off the link before he could say anything else.

I looked out the window and I saw Ace relax and actually lay down on his feet while still watching me. Like he was happy or something. And I just smiled at him.
